Hello,
I want to paginate my Word document starting from a page other than the first one (since it contains the table of contents).
I have looked into the procedure which is to create a page break, then double-click on the header or footer and click on Link to Previous. However, this last button is not clickable.
Why is that? Thank you in advance.

Hello,
Because you made page breaks when you should have made section breaks
you can check this discussion
https://forums.commentcamarche.net/forum/affich-36656162-probleme-de-numerotation-de-page
explanation:
1) Start by deleting any section breaks you may have added
2) Click in front of the first character of your page that will become page 5, then go to the "layout" tab, Page Break/Next Page.
This way, you will create a section break between page 4 and page 5.
3) Click in your page 5 then go to the Insert tab/Header and Footer module/Page Number/choose the pagination position
4) Navigation module/deactivate Link to Previous (you can go back to this module (preview mode) Insert/Footer modify the footer)
5) Click on the Insert tab/Footer/Page Number/Page Number Format/optionally choose the style, the most important is to check Starting at and choose 5 which will be the first number of the section starting on page 5, (but we could start this numbering at 1 or 2 for example by selecting in Page Number Format/from)
6) Click on a page of the first section between pages 1 and 4 Insert tab/Header and Footer module/Page Number/delete the page number
pages 1 to 4 will have no pagination and pagination will start on page 5 with number 5 or whatever we have defined
Word pagination is not straightforward, good luck
