Hello,
when I log into Thunderbird I receive the following message
Connection failed from the server pop3.bbox.fr with the username christian beck enter a new password
I enter the password
Failed to send the password for user christian beck. The mail server pop3.bbox.fr replied: Authenticate error
I tried to reconfigure the account unsuccessfully and the email with the provider Bouygues works
In addition, I wanted to create a new account but Thunderbird only offers me to modify the existing account and not a new account
Does anyone have a solution
thank you
Configuration: Windows / Firefox 88.0

Hello @Christian57,
The authentication error is likely due to the fact that what you entered in the "username" field is not your complete Bouygues email address.
The server requires it, as well as its password, to certify that it's indeed an authorized user logging in.
To create a new account, see "Account Management / Add a New Account" at the bottom of the left column of the "Account Settings" panel.

@Christian57,
A reinstallation won't change anything and is totally unnecessary because it's not an installation defect of the product but a configuration issue.
After reinstallation, TB finds everything exactly the same.
I've asked Bouygues to confirm this information and they tell me it's correct.
What information are they telling you is correct? If it's your email address, that's the only information they can certify.
An Internet service provider like Bouygues is not supposed to know the details of the configuration for each email client software and is generally incompetent on this subject.
See below an example of POP account configuration at Orange.
At Bouygues, it's similar:

Hello,
Thank you for this quick response, but I asked Bouygues to confirm this information, and they say it's correct.
I also tried to create a new account, but when I click on it, a pop-up opens telling me "set up your existing email address."
It's impossible to create a new account. Bouygues had suggested this solution, and they tell me it comes from Thunderbird and not from them.
I don't know if I completely reinstall Thunderbird, whether I can retrieve my existing messages stored on the PC, or if it will create a new message file and erase the old ones.
How can I do this?
Thank you.
