Connection loss only while streaming

Hello everyone,

I'm reaching out because I've recently embarked on the adventure of streaming, and sadly, I'm experiencing some issues with my connection. Indeed, I have general connection drops (streaming, online gaming, ...).

In terms of setup, I have more than adequate equipment with a PC whose main components are an AMD 5900x, an Asus ROG B550-f gaming (with an Intel® 2.5Gb Ethernet port), and a 1070. As for my connection, I'm a fiber Orange customer. Speedtests confirm a download speed of 280 Mbps, an upload of 270, and a ping of 8ms. I'm connected to the box via powerline adapters. On paper, everything is in place to stream without any problems.

Unfortunately, as soon as I start a stream, I experience multiple connection drops during the session. More specifically, my bitrate (set at 4000 for a 720p stream) drops to 0 on the streaming software (OBS studio or Streamlabs OBS), and I lose connection to the servers in online games. My streams last between 2 to 4 hours, and I haven't had a single session without these issues. These problems only occur while streaming. Indeed, I can do long online gaming sessions without any problems, no drops while downloading, watching videos, streams, or television.

I really don't know where this problem might be coming from. Almost all my online searches have led me to solutions for people who have a bitrate that is too high for their connection.

Do you have any ideas, clues, or anything else that could help me find the root of the problem?

    Hi,

    For me, the issue comes from the powerline adapter, which has minor synchronization losses.

    Before looking further, do a test using Wi-Fi or a direct wired connection. If the issue no longer occurs, you've identified the culprit.

    Thanks for your reply. It's one of the things I was thinking about, but I was hoping it wasn't that (I changed my powerline adapter when I got connected to fiber). I'm going to try to find a good length cable and test it out. I'll get back to you with the results as soon as possible.

      CPL is inherently unstable. It only takes the network to pass through the electrical panel or to be interfered with by other plugged-in devices. Minor desynchronizations can disrupt live streaming.

      That said, I am not blaming the CPL (not yet), I am just highlighting its very likely instability (for the reasons mentioned above).

    Back after a stream with a wired connection. I had high hopes with more than 30 minutes without interruptions! But unfortunately, I had 3 disconnections (15, 10, and 10 seconds according to the Twitch Inspector tracking).

    Is there a problem with the BOX? The outdoor connection? Are there any sites to test the connection over a duration? The only tests I find are speed tests that last only a few seconds.

    Well, following some new tests, I don't think the problem comes from the supplier/the box. Indeed, I conducted quite a few tests using the Windows command "ping" and I consistently experience packet loss on my computer that I use for streaming, but none on my laptop.
    Do you think the issue could be coming from the motherboard? Since it's the motherboard that manages the connection through its integrated network card.

        I don't see any losses or only 3 and not from you, negligible therefore, non-significant.
