The SM bus controller does not have a driver. Solved

Hello, the question is in the title.  I have a warning sign that appears on the SM bus controller, and a message tells me that the driver is missing. I know this topic has been addressed several times, but from what I understood, while the question may be the same for everyone, the answer isn't necessarily the same. While searching, I gathered that it might be a chipset problem on the motherboard, and if we install the wrong one, we can say goodbye to the motherboard?  Anyway, here’s the model of my motherboard: Gigabyte Z97P-D3. (Win 10 pro 64)  In looking on the Gigabyte support page, I see that there are two versions of my motherboard GA-Z97P-D3(rev.1.0) and GA-Z97P-D3(rev.1.1) and of course I don’t know which one is mine (but I believe that in the end the drivers are the same) then I found this on the download page:  https://www.gigabyte.com/fr/Motherboard/GA-Z97P-D3-rev-10/support#support-dl-driver  And there I don't really know what to choose, there are two options in the chipset category, and when I try to install one of them my computer tells me that I’m about to install an older version than the one already installed, so not wanting to make a mistake I didn’t install anything and came here to ask my question. Hello, the only way to "kill" your motherboard is to mess up the BIOS installation (flashing) because it installs directly on the motherboard. The Windows drivers compatible with your motherboard, like the chipset one for example, install in the Windows system and not on the motherboard, so there is no risk for your motherboard; this only concerns Windows. Since this motherboard has an Intel Z97 chipset and is old (2014), there may no longer be a compatible driver for the latest versions of Windows 10. Hello and thank you for your response. I ran a detection with Drivers Cloud and among the proposed drivers, there is only one with a relevance level of 5, and it is an audio driver. The only one containing the terms SMBus Controller is not available for download.    Should I try installing the drivers offered by Gigabyte? I downloaded the ones for both versions of the motherboard and they seem to be the same (at least they have the same name).

If DriversCloud doesn't offer you the driver for your chipset, it's because it's already up to date. Regarding the relevance of 5, I always mention that because I had issues with a driver that had a relevance of 3; after installing it, Windows had bugs, and I had to remove it. For your information, before updating drivers, it's advisable to create a restore point because in case of problems, you can revert back https://www.malekal.com/restauration-systeme-windows/.  The driver for the Intel Z97 chipset is also available on Intel's website. You can try Intel's assistant; it will tell you if your motherboard's Intel drivers are up to date or not https://www.intel.fr/content/www/fr/fr/support/detect.html  As for installing those from Gigabyte, you can install them since it's the manufacturer of the motherboard that is offering them, but since they date back to 2015, I think they are already installed.  Also check if your version of Windows 10 is up to date; go to this page, click on Update now, and this will launch the download of Microsoft's tool; you just need to open it, and it will allow you to update Windows 10 to the latest version and will tell you if it's compatible with your PC. Be careful, this update takes some time. If you have a laptop, plug it into the power source, as it would be unfortunate to run out of battery before the update is completed.
