Question

question mark "SM bus controller" I installed the Intel drivers...nothing. My card is an MSI 6529, my OS: XP Pro 1. how to remove that damned question mark...

P.S.: my PC works perfectly except during startup, it tries to install the SM BUS CONTROLLER.........

Thank you, but I'm not sure it works on a Dell. In fact, I reformatted everything and I no longer have this problem. The drivers for each component are on the utility CD that I got with XP Pro.

(My config: Intel iP GHz motherboard, integrated LAN...) the missing controller is just a piece of the drivers for the network card.)

I had the same question mark with my ECS K7S5A motherboard (SiS 735 chipset) and XP Pro. It disappeared after I uninstalled Motherboard Monitor 5. That said, this question mark didn't prevent my PC from working!

You need to download the driver for the motherboard chipset. In my case, it worked. In my case, it was "INF plug and play for Intel chipset."

Download Intel® Chipset Software Installation Utility (INF Update Utility) (address in message 17 from LaSpada). Install it, and the yellow question mark for the SM bus controller disappears.
Successful test on Orline PC, QDI motherboard, and Pentium 4, under Windows XP.

I experienced the same phenomenon after formatting my hard drives, ASROCK Conroe Xfire board, resolved by reloading the Intel drivers with the original CD, some drivers were not copied correctly during the first load. Problem resolved, no more ? sm.

The solution is quite simple, I had the same problem after a formatting, there are two solutions: -the first and easiest is found on the installation CD of your motherboard (if you have it of course), normally it should work without issues. -the second is less obvious, you need to find the driver on the manufacturer's website for your motherboard, so first find out the brand of your motherboard and go to the manufacturer's site, there should surely be a section for downloading motherboard drivers and it should logically work. Then some manufacturers are less skilled than others and have a customer service that leaves much to be desired, so you will have to search on other forums for links to the corresponding drivers. I highly recommend once the driver is found to burn it or put it in a safe place just in case. You can also request the motherboard installation disks if they were not provided to you, after all, you paid for the card!

Hello,  The bus controller SM issue appears exclusively on INTEL chipsets.  It is recommended to go to the manufacturer's website for your motherboard and download the latest version available. Alternatively, visit the Intel Corporate website and download the latest version of their INF drivers for Intel-based chipsets.  That's all.
