Keyboard freezing on Windows (beep beep)

Hello everyone,
I have a problem that will make you think a bit... :)
So, I have a USB keyboard on Windows XP SP2, and during the startup of the machine, I have access to my keyboard and everything works fine.
For example, I can hammer the F8 key at startup to enter safe mode.
Once in Windows, though, things get complicated:
I no longer have a keyboard; all the pressed keys produce a short beep (like during a general crash when the mouse buffer is full and ends up beeping during mouse movement, just to give you an idea).
The keyboard has special keys, and those work (launching WMP, Internet Explorer, etc.).
The mouse, however, works perfectly fine.
Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
Uninstalling the keyboard from the Device Manager and then reconnecting it after rebooting: no effect
Changing USB ports: no effect
Installing specific drivers for the keyboard: no effect, as the Microsoft drivers take priority
Safe mode: the problem exists even in safe mode
Changing to a PS2 keyboard: no effect
I’m going to try running a virus scan (Antivir is installed on the machine) to see if there’s something stuck on that side. If you have any ideas or if you’ve encountered the same problem, feel free to chat on this thread.
I would, of course, like to try to recover the functionality of the keyboard without having to reinstall Windows...

It's already been over 2 years since the topic was abandoned, but I will provide a possible answer to his problem.
If his keyboard beeps more and more rapidly when you hold down a key, try disabling Filter Keys in the accessibility options in the control panel.
Or hold down the right shift key (the long key below the enter key) for 10 seconds.
That should disable Filter Keys.
At least on Windows XP...
