Mobile hotspot in Windows 10 not turning on

Hello,

I can't activate the mobile hotspot on Windows 10; I get the error message "We can't set up mobile hotspots."

I've tried a lot of things, including reading similar problems, but for example, I don't have a "Microsoft Wifi-Direct Virtual Adapter #2" in my device manager, and the Windows updates or driver updates haven't changed anything.

If anyone has a solution, please, thank you in advance for your help...

Hello,

Go to Services (Windows + R > services.msc) and check that the "Windows Mobile Hotspot Service" is started.

  Thank you, I set the service to automatic startup, restarted the computer, checked all the other dependent services, but unfortunately, it did not resolve the issue.

  Excellent, thank you. So this solution with Ethernet cable sharing works; I can create the Wi-Fi hotspot from my computer and connect to it with my smartphone, for example (so that makes the mobile wireless access point useless?).
  
  But as soon as I use a VPN and try to connect with my smartphone, it tells me "Connected without Internet," even though my computer's virtual network shows internet access.
  
  My final goal is to use a VPN with this technique... do you have a solution for this, please?
  
  I haven't found any solution so far, and I don't really understand why it blocks once the VPN is active.

    Hi,
    yes, it's doable, but you need to share the VPN connection instead of the Ethernet connection.

So, I thought I could also share the connection with the device "Ethernet 4," which indicates the name of my VPN "TunnelBear Adapter V9," as shown in the screenshot. But I can't figure out how to do it... because when I go to properties, I can apparently only share one type of connection. And I still have "Connected without Internet."

  Did you disable sharing on the Ethernet connection?
  What is the TAP connection, do you have another VPN?

  Yes, by sharing only Ethernet 4, nothing actually happens, maybe because it says "Network cable not connected"?
  
  As for the TAP connection, I honestly don't know... I think I had tested other VPNs maybe before this, but I see the name "TAP" everywhere in online tutorials, which is strange.

  If your VPN is not connected, it makes sense that nothing happens, but that shouldn't stop you from sharing it.
  TAP is not weird; it is installed by all OpenVPN-type VPNs.

  Okay for TAP, in other tutorials I see they say to share the TAP, but the same, No network access...

  Paste the result of an ipconfig/all when you have the VPN connected as well as the hotspot sharing.
