Rakuten and identity card

Hello everyone,

Voilà, I have a problem with Rakuten.
I would like to access my "wallet" only, but I am being asked for a copy of my ID.
I find it absurd since neither the tax authorities, nor the bank, nor social security, nor any other important institution asks for it.
But a retail website does!?

Regarding security, I think there are other means, and therefore I don't find it justified.
I only see it as a means of profiling or identity theft...
These days, it's hard not to fall into a kind of paranoia...
Especially since I was given criteria justifying the request and I do not fit any of the cases.

Could someone tell me if all of this is normal? Is the request justified?

Thank you for your feedback.

      Hello,

Thank you but that does not answer my question.
And it is specified "starting from €250".
However, I do not meet this criterion.

What are the justifications given? To the question "is it normal?" my answer was yes, if you have made €250 in total sales since the creation of your account.

So far, since the beginning (around 3-4 years ago), I have a total of €230.

    Hello,
You are right to ask yourself all these questions.
We must definitely not provide a copy of the ID card, and according to the CNIL, we have the right to do so.
It is still strange that this request comes from the Bank of France, especially since our bank account details are registered on the site.
We need to regroup and do like me: I checked the option that I went on vacation.
If everyone does that, firstly we will sell better on other sites and Rakuten will have to capitulate.
    Best regards.

Hello Julian, they did the same to me. To use my wallet, they want a photocopy of my ID, but I absolutely won't send it for fear of identity theft. Now I'm going to contact fraud protection, and if necessary, I will file a complaint because it's unacceptable to block our money. I told them I was leaving their site and that the money would be lost from my wallet, and their response was that this money is lost. But I think it won't be lost for everyone. For me, Rakuten is nothing but a scam.

      Hello,
      Thank you for your message.
I will try to get a refund; otherwise, I will do as you did.
      Best regards

        Hello Julian
If you manage to get a refund, could you let me know how you did it? Because for me, they don't want to hear anything as long as I haven't provided them with the documents. I spoke with my bank, which told me not to send this type of document at all.
        Best regards

    Hello,

Like you, my wallet has just been blocked by Rakuten for an amount of 37.50 euros because I refuse to send an ID!
Following an initial complaint, customer service redirected me to "***@***" without responding to my request.
I have therefore renewed my complaint to this address.
I am awaiting their response... to be continued.
    Best regards.

It is a legal requirement at the European level; it is not Rakuten that chooses, and no, they will not sell your identity on the DarkNet...

        Thank you for these clarifications.
Unfortunately, identity theft problems are not limited to "Rakuten will not sell your identity on the Darknet."
In the past, my identity has been stolen by a credit agency and used for an online purchase. This company failed to secure the data in its possession.
Moreover, when I filed my complaint, the police were very clear about this: never transmit a copy of your ID. In my case, the credit agency was at fault.

Rakuten is therefore in no way a guarantee of security. This company can be the target of hackers... or dishonest employees.

In any case, in my case, Rakuten does not need my ID to refund the 37.50 euros they owe me.

        Best regards.

One should read the terms of use before selling on it.
If a clause seems unfair to you, it is neither a computer problem nor a legal problem, but a legislative problem. Therefore, you need to see your deputy, and here the European deputy, to change the KYC law.
