Red cross on the avast icon

Hello,

I've been seeing a red cross appear on the Avast icon for some time now, but when checking the software status, everything seems to be working normally.
This cross doesn't appear all the time; for example, it wasn't there yesterday, but when I turned on my microphone this morning, it was definitely there.
Is my laptop infected?
If so, could you help me disinfect it, please?
Thank you

Configuration: Windows 7 / Firefox 79.0

    Hello,
This is not usually an infection; you need to click on the Avast icon to see what it indicates as a notification.

Sometimes this red cross appears when one of the web defense agents is poorly installed after starting Windows or sometimes to mention a program update.

    Otherwise, consider repairing the program:

It says all agents are active while there is a red cross on the icon. That's what's strange
I started a software repair but it has been stuck for quite a while. Is that normal?

      Hello.

      @Helpeur8080

Just passing by. . . Why Avast on Windows 10? Microsoft doesn't like it and makes it known when a major update tries to install. Stick with Windows Defender, which has improved a lot now and is well worth this piece of junk, Avast.

    Hello,
I uninstalled and reinstalled Avast earlier due to a red X appearing on the software icon (agents still active despite that), and since the reinstallation, my PC has been horrendously slow and worse than that, it has frozen several times when opening my browser and the control panel. I had to restart it several times using the power button as there was no way to unfreeze it.
I then switched to safe mode where I attempted a repair on Firefox which worked. However, my computer remains slow, less slow than when it froze several times, but still slow nonetheless.
Could you help me resolve this issue?
    Thank you

I haven't reviewed everything. What system are you on, Windows 10?

    Otherwise, to reset everything...

Note that you should plan for between 5 and 6 hours with Windows Repair.

    Hello.

    Just passing by . . .

Unthinkable to have so many programs at startup! For example, CCleaner. Plus, haven't defragmented in over a year? But why, since the defragmentation tool is set to run weekly by default (e.g., every Wednesday at 3 AM)? Or maybe the tool has been disabled by the administrator. That's not a good move. Furthermore, there’s only 6.05 GB of free space on 332 GB on local disk C. The partition is completely "choked," which inevitably slows down the system. A lot of cleaning needs to be done on this PC.

I’ll leave the topic because of external work . . . Good luck anyway.

    See you . . .

    P.S.: Hi MP!

Hello, I think it's time for you to get rid of CCleaner and Avast since they only have one thing in common with the company that acquired Piriform, Avast!

To do this, you need to stop using them and uninstall them immediately.
You'll understand why Windows Defender is the essential antivirus built into Windows 10 that you are urged to use.

      Hi.

Except that . . . >>> Configuration: Windows 7 / Firefox 79.0 <<< . . . And in this case Windows Defender is no longer just an antimalware for Windows 7 but not an antivirus.

That doesn't change the fact that you're right. There are other more serious antivirus options for Win 7 and CCleaner is not essential. There is a cleaning tool in the system through the properties of C: local. As for the registry, you should never use a cleaner, even if CCleaner seems to be the least dangerous of all registry cleaning software, valid keys can disappear during cleaning. This leads to system corruption with bugs and slowdowns.

      See you later . . .
