Hello
My iMac has died and I have replaced it. So I have a dead device that I want to get rid of
Is it possible to take it to a recycling center without the risk of recovering certain data
Thank you
Sincerely

Hello,
Simply retrieve the hard drive before taking it to the landfill and keep the hard drive in a safe place.
Assumption:
Furthermore, if the hard drive is not faulty, you can easily turn it into an external hard drive.

thank you very much but I cannot open the Mac (special screwdriver) to possibly retrieve the hard drive.
Can we take it to the dump without the risk of recovery?

Hello.
There is the Kill Disk software for Mac computers, but since "it's given up the ghost" it's no longer possible. If your PC still starts, you can buy a KILLER USB stick, and it will guarantee destruction by "electrocution". Several hundred volts in the hard drive or SSD motor leaves no room for error!
As mentioned by MPMP, there is no solution but to dismantle the HDD. For the "special screws", you can find inexpensive boxes from the brand Cogex that definitely have the tip you need for these screws in various shapes. (Personally, €9.90 at Gifi) There are other brands as well.
See you later . . .
