Hello everyone,
I have a Samsung S8 that has recently been experiencing charging issues. I know this topic has been discussed many times, but I haven't seen a case similar to my problem.
In fact, it no longer charges with the original Samsung chargers. I've tried several different chargers, cables, etc. with different combinations, but nothing changes. The little lightning bolt that usually appears in the battery logo on the screen at the top right is no longer showing, and the indicator light is not coming on either.
However, with "other" non-original chargers, the phone charges, but slowly (about 3 hours to charge from 40% to 100%).
When I connect the phone via a USB cable (non-original) to my PC, the charging is relatively fast (still faster than charging from a wall outlet), taking about 1 hour to charge 50%.
Do you have any idea what the problem might be and any possible solution?
Thank you in advance.

Hello,
Indeed, everything is going wrong.
The fact that there is no charging indicator with the cable and the original Samsung charger likely indicates a connectivity issue (cable or charger).
Another abnormal point: with a non-fast charger (or non-Samsung), it shouldn't take you 3 hours to charge from 40 to 100%. That seems quite slow to me.
Normally, charging via a PC's USB port is slow, slower than charging from a wall outlet.
Are you sure about the charger you are using?
You can try recalibrating the battery; see this. I don't really believe in it.
Things to do:
- clean the micro-USB port (compressed air)
- use short cables with a thick gauge if possible.
If none of this works, contact Samsung's customer service.
You wrote an absurdity: "Maybe a power issue, like too much power from the outlet, etc."
Forget that: the EDF network has nothing to do with this story.

Hello, thank you for your response.
Yes, I am sure about the charger(s) I am using since it charges other Samsung phones without any issues.
I have already tried recalibrating, cleaning the charging port, but nothing has changed.
I will therefore contact customer service.
P.S.: I may have expressed myself poorly on the subject. In no way did I discriminate against EDF. Simply put, there is a difference in power output between the wall socket and the USB port (on a PC), which is why a phone charges faster on the wall than on a PC. In my case, I was actually thinking about a defect in the charging connector of my phone, which, when plugged into the wall, somehow goes into a "safety" mode and charges slowly.
Thank you,
Best regards.

Hello,
The phone does not charge directly from the mains: you are not "on mains power." There is an intermediate charger that provides the "right" current (rectified, regulated with the correct voltage). For standard chargers, the maximum current that the charger can deliver is about 2 A at 5 V. This results in an available power of 10 W.
If you plug the smartphone into the USB 3.0 port of a computer, the current is limited to 0.9 A, also at 5 V. This means 4.5 W, about 2 times less than with the charger. The charging time will be approximately doubled.

Have you tried using a charger with a USB connection? If not, based on your explanation, I would say it's a connectivity issue with your Samsung charger. Have you tried several chargers of the same brand or just the one that came with the phone?

Yes, yes, I tried chargers with USB connections as well as several Samsung chargers.
I thought there might be a defect with the phone's connector, but the fact that it charges on the PC proves otherwise.
Maybe it’s a power issue, like too much power from the mains, so the phone switches to slow charging mode perhaps?
