Hello,
I just picked up a laptop (HP), and its owner claims he tried to install Windows 10 on it with a legitimate key (not a crack), but when I turn it on, there's an error message from the Recovery Manager stating that the restoration is incomplete.
I attempted to close the Recovery Manager, but the PC restarts every time.
The command prompt displays: The specified drive could not be found.
Looking at the details of the restoration, I see there's a [PIN_ERROR_MSG] in C:\system.sav\Logs\BB\P00QG0B2
followed by: Install Folder: c:\SWSETUP\APP\Security\McAfee\McAfeeMLS_QQG0B2\15.3.3074

How can I resolve this issue?
Thanks in advance
Crys

Hello,

The recovery partition seems to have been deleted.

Reinstall Windows 10 without formatting:

The principle is to create a Windows 10 installation USB drive and boot the computer from it to reinstall Windows without formatting in order to keep your data.
Since the computer is crashed, you need to create this from another functioning computer.

To create the USB drive:

You need a USB drive with at least 8 GB.

If the USB drive doesn't work, try making another one with Rufus: how to download Rufus.
Download the ISO file, for example with Adguard: Download Windows ISO
Launch Rufus and then specify the path of the ISO file
In partition scheme, choose GPT.
For more details, refer to this tutorial for details: how to create a Windows installation USB drive

The Windows 10 installer should then start:

Follow these tutorials that explain how to install Windows 10:
All steps are given from A to Z with tips at the end to secure Windows 10.
  • Let yourself be guided to install Windows 10.
  • Choose customize (not upgrade)
  • During the partition phase, select the main partition and click next.

  • The installer will inform you that Windows is already present and offer to move it.

  • Follow the Windows installation procedure using the tutorial above.

Just do not format.

Your user data will be copied to the Windows.old folder.

Once Windows is installed, I recommend following these tips to properly configure and use Windows: Tips after reinstalling Windows.

Good evening,
Thank you for your response.
Having already the key, I tried to start the computer from the USB drive by following the instructions but a message appears after the installation attempt: Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.
I will try tomorrow to create a USB drive with the Media Creation Tool.
