Error 1700 on Canon Pixma TS8051

Hello everyone.

Like all CANON printer owners, I am facing and discovering the infamous error 1700 regarding the soon-to-be-full ink absorber (nice planned obsolescence).

I have thoroughly searched the various forums on this subject but found nothing regarding my model, the TS8051. How can I reset this famous error or counter to zero?

If any of you have an idea, I would be more than grateful. Thank you in advance.

    Good evening,

It is practically impossible to bypass this error. You could reset the counter on older models.

Now it’s not certain that it’s a good idea. Currently, the ink absorber is certainly not saturated, but it will be soon. I assume it’s calculated based on the number of print head cleanings that have taken place. It’s better to be proactive because an overflowing ink absorber is particularly messy. It’s hard to talk about planned obsolescence: this is an unavoidable maintenance operation on inkjet printers.

The real problem is that changing this absorber is not simple. You have to send the printer back to customer service or call a repair technician. The costs will probably exceed the value of the printer. In practice, error 1700 signifies the death of the printer. Nevertheless, inquire about the cost of the operation.

Good evening and thank you for this response. If I can't do anything on my end without being at Canon's mercy, I can therefore conclude that the lifespan of a printer from their brand is about 2 and a half years... at least as far as I'm concerned. I find that a bit limiting.
