Same problem.. I just uninstalled and after reinstallation I'm unable to connect with this error message.. And it doesn't work on Lite for me either..

I have an account with a phone number without Facebook and another Facebook account
I went on messenger lite. It worked but the application was really limited
I downloaded the messenger application on my computer and it worked
Then I tried the method of changing accounts on the messenger.com site, but I was able to connect without being asked to confirm my phone number.
In parallel, I was still trying to connect on the mobile app but with no results
I tried again this morning like that and magic
Unfortunately, I don't know why, so I don't have a technique, but I reported the problem on the messenger app (you click on your photo and an option to report a problem will appear) with my Facebook account and the same with messenger lite with my phone number account. Same problem for a few days, you can reconnect with your phone number on the Messenger Lite app, however, it is really underperforming (e.g. you can no longer access photos from conversations through files, notifications do not respond, you cannot react to messages, etc...)

I had this too, my question is: is it because you all have a Messenger account without Facebook + a Facebook account? (Is that what made it impossible to use Messenger without Facebook?)

You need to download the Messenger Lite app, which is less efficient, but at least you can regain access to your account.

And what if we delete our Facebook account? Have you tried it?

For me it's the same as many of you, I no longer have access to normal messenger since October 31 because as soon as I try to log in, it automatically logs me out due to "restrictions on this type of accounts." I don't have a Facebook account and I managed to log into my account with messenger lite but it's much less good than normal messenger (no bubbles, no reactions, no read indicators) and like all of you, I would like to regain access to normal messenger.

So here it is, my question is the following: is this a general bug with messenger or an update to Facebook's Terms of Service that is denying us access?
Do you think that creating a Facebook account with the same credentials as the messenger account and linking them could restore access to the messenger account?
