Messenger connection issue without Facebook

Since this morning, I can no longer log into my Messenger account.
I have two accounts: the first one connects with my phone number (without a Facebook account) and the second with Facebook. I switch between the two accounts very often.
And since this morning, I can only log in with the Facebook account. When I try to log into my first account with my phone number and password, there is a "Connecting" message followed directly by "Disconnecting," and finally "You cannot log into Facebook with this account due to restrictions on this type of account."
What does that mean?
I tried to log in directly on messenger.com and it works (except that the conversations load with a blank screen).
I must admit I’m puzzled, and if a kind soul passes by, I would be very grateful.

Hello, I had exactly the same problem on my phone: a Messenger account without FB (using my phone number) and a Messenger account with a FB account (via my email). After multiple attempts to switch from the FB account to the one without, I tried to log into my account without FB (phone number) on a computer. Of course, it gave me the same message "You cannot log in..." and when I tried to log into my account without FB right after on my phone, it told me that a device had used that same number. It asked me if I had changed my number or not. By saying no, it asked for confirmation by sending a text message with a code. By entering that code, I was directly logged back into my account without FB. A lucky break? I don’t know, but in any case, if this can help some people in the same situation, that's great.

Hello, I don't have a Facebook account, only a Messenger account with my phone number. After resetting my phone, I was unable to reconnect to my Messenger with the same message: "You cannot log into Facebook with this account due to restrictions on this type of account." After 2 days of persistence, I finally succeeded. I just had to add +33 and the rest of my number to be able to log in... hoping I was able to help you.
Same problem.. I just uninstalled and after reinstallation I'm unable to connect with this error message.. And it doesn't work on Lite for me either..
Looking at all the testimonies, it's clear that most users of Messenger without Facebook are blocked from the regular Messenger app but allowed in the much less efficient Messenger Lite. When we think about it, Facebook's policy and revenue source are based on advertising sponsorship that constantly runs on Facebook and the scrolling of publications. So, I reflect, like many of us, that Facebook might be somehow forcing us, without any explanation, to return to using the Facebook app. For my part, I hope I'm wrong and that this isn't an attempt to regain us, because I won't stay.

I agree with you that Facebook encourages us to create an account; I have a big problem with my Messenger. Without a Facebook account, it's hard to recover it, even if the password has been changed because the account is restricted. I even tried to create another Messenger account, but it's not possible unless I sign up for Facebook.

Exactly the same issue, and I followed the advice of someone who had recovered their account using Messenger Lite, and miraculously, I got it back, hallelujah.
I think that Facebook does not allow the use and combination of a regular Facebook account and a Messenger account without Facebook, and I can't recover the regular Messenger with Messenger without Facebook, but connecting it to Messenger Lite works perfectly fine, which suits me very well while I delete my other Facebook account.

In parallel, I was still trying to connect on the mobile app but with no results
I tried again this morning like that and magic

Same problem for a few days, you can reconnect with your phone number on the Messenger Lite app, however, it is really underperforming (e.g. you can no longer access photos from conversations through files, notifications do not respond, you cannot react to messages, etc...)

I had this too, my question is: is it because you all have a Messenger account without Facebook + a Facebook account? (Is that what made it impossible to use Messenger without Facebook?)
I've just removed my phone number from my Facebook account (after adding an email address) and I can access my account again. It’s happening as previously described by others: Lite seems to work normally, messenger.com opens but conversations load indefinitely, and the regular Messenger app always disconnects immediately when I try to access my Messenger account without Facebook (but no longer claims that the password is incorrect).

Hello, I have the same problem. I logged into the computer and there was no issue. I logged out. I then turned off my phone and when I turned it back on I logged into Messenger and at that moment both Messenger accounts reappeared. Thank you for your help.
