BIOS update = Drivelock password :-/

Hello
After a BIOS update on my HP Pavilion ZE4400, the computer asks for a password "Drivelock" at startup. However, I didn’t set one! Maybe it’s asking for the default password (the factory one)?
I’ve tried common ones like admin, pass, password, 0000000, pavilion, hp, etc. without success.
Could someone tell me if there is a list of "default" passwords available on the internet?
BIOS: KE.M1.73
HD: Toshiba MK2018GAP (PM)
PXE Version: 2.01
In the BIOS, it’s impossible to disable the Disklock ON option without having the password.
Thank you in advance and best regards
Ninick

Hi
I upgraded the BIOS at the recommendation of an HP specialist. With the old version of the BIOS, I was getting an error message from PXE (PX-E61 Media Test failure, check cable) which prevented me from booting the hard drive.
So the only solution was to upgrade the BIOS to perform a hard drive test (SMART) to eliminate the possibility of a technical failure. Test result: 100% OK
The only difference between the old version of the BIOS and the recent one:
with the old version it didn’t ask me for a password and displayed the PXE error message directly
with the new version it asks me for a password and if the password is wrong => it displays the same PXE error message
The HP specialist tells me that I must have set a password (which is absolutely false) and that if I no longer remember it, I can throw away my hard drive!?!? (I have 1 week of unsaved accounting work on the hard drive = 42.5 hours of work. I expected a different response from an HP pro)
Best regards

You shall not kill, except for HP pros
Every day you shall perform the backup

Try downgrading your BIOS; perhaps the update created a password for you, or have you tried without a password?

Hi there
Well, the hard drive has been replaced... it works. Too bad for the week of work :(
Thanks anyway for the comments.

Have you still tried connecting the HDD to another computer? Just to see if you could still recover your data.

Hello,
Same goes with older equipment...
HP hotline: useless, totally useless!
But where does this password come from? That's just crazy...

Well, I'm joining you for this problem because my PC has exactly the same symptoms and I'm currently stuck in Ireland without a PC.
First symptom: PX-E61 Media Test failure, check cable
But by restarting I was able to boot the PC
Second symptom: Enter the Drive lock password
How did this happen? First startup in the morning, no problem, an automatic update runs. Then at midday, it asks for the Drive lock password. Of course, I've never activated this password, so I don't have it.
I've done several searches, but I can't find any solutions that work. My hard drive was partitioned, so I thought I could recover my data on an external hard drive and format the internal hard drive, but according to you, that won't work. I'm going to try to dismantle it and connect it to another PC, but I have very little hope.
It's really crazy, at first I thought it was a virus, it's just the kind of thing that sets passwords.
Otherwise, to prevent this for next time, do you know of any free software to perform automatic backups?

Hello,
I've encountered this problem twice on two different PCs. It seems that if you haven't set a Drivelock password yourself, it could either be:
1° either a nasty bug from HP that permanently locks a hard drive, making access to the data impossible, the only solution: throw it away and get a new one
2° or a sign of hard drive failure.
In any case, and I've spent quite a bit of time with tech support, it's unavoidable.
Thanks HP!!!
