Hello
I'm with Free and when I forward an email I've received, my attachments turn into unnamed files that are unreadable because there is no definition or extension.
What can I do so that everyone can easily read my attachments?
Thank you for your response

I'm receiving attached files named unnamed.dat and I can't open them. I'm with Orange. Maybe I need to download a program? THANK YOU for your response - Rose-marie

Hello Rosette
The problem does not come from you.
You need to inform the person who sends you these emails
because the issue is that this person needs to create an Outlook account or another one so that they can send you these files without them being modified by unnamed.dat.
Ask them if they can open the files without any problems; it's because they are directly opening from the website where their account is and not from their computer as they should do to avoid this issue for you.
If you have unnamed.dat files and it's a video, then it should be renamed to unnamed.avi; if it's a photo, .jpg, etc.
Another solution, as I saw on the site, is to ask this person when they send you the files to indicate whether it is a video, photo, text, or something else.
The problem is that sometimes there are multiple unnamed.dat files, and it's difficult to copy them, so the solution is to ask the person if they can get help from others to create their account on Outlook or another platform, and then everyone will be happy because it is very unpleasant not to be able to read what is sent to us.
I hope I have helped you.
If you need assistance, I will respond to you.
Regards

Are the files very long with spaces in their names? That can be a problem.
Are they large files? What size? -
Good evening,
I have the same problem, unable to read attachments: unnamed
This comes from a FREE user
I saw a message on this site saying that they could be opened with Media Player, but that doesn't work for me...
Do you have another solution?
Thank you

The solution is to use another inbox with a different server.
I got an inbox with Voilà and I'm redirecting the emails sent to me on Free to my new inbox.
Even Free doesn't have a solution to its problem and yet it's a basic programming issue with the attachment handling when someone clicks "forward."
I don't have a solution to share except to stop using the Free email box or to save the attachment on your end and create a new message instead of forwarding it.
It's quite bothersome for functions that exist and are so convenient! -
I don't have the explanation but a trick to read files transformed into unnamed.dat.
Ask for the original extension and rename the file or try randomly .jpg / .pps / .avi etc...
It works! -

It seems that I have solved the problem, for now!!!
I open the unnamed send, I click on save, I do it on the desktop, then I right-click on the unnamed file that appears, and miracle, it opened.....
try it, it costs nothing and it can open the send! -
Hello,
I have the same problem at home, if someone has a solution to share it would be very kind.
Thank you. -
Hello,
When I receive emails from a friend using Free, I cannot read the attachments labeled unnamed (illegible, without a name).
What remedy? -
The issue resolved itself without any intervention on my part. I still receive files from my friend connected to Free, but I can open them. So I have no idea how it got fixed.
One possibility, though I'm not sure if it's the right one. I changed my antivirus, but it may have no bearing on this or it could just be a coincidence. -
You should avoid spaces and very long names because in these cases, the file name may end up being split across several lines and the recipient's email software may not always be able to piece it back together, ending up with unnamed.

A friend on Free sent me an unnamed attachment that I was able to open with the PDF viewer proposed by "Windows Mail", whereas I can't open this file with the Orange messaging service.
