How to disable Safe Sleep mode on iMac?

Hello,
I just bought an iMac, which dates back to 2017.
When I don't use it for several hours, it apparently goes into the mode mentioned in the title.
As a result, it doesn't wake up, neither by moving the mouse nor by pressing a key on the keyboard.
If I briefly press the power button, I get a gray screen with a progress bar made up of small white squares, then a black screen and nothing responds anymore.
To get it to come back, I have to press and hold the power button 2 or 3 times, and it eventually works, but it restarts from the beginning, with the message "your computer did not shut down properly, blah blah...".
In System Preferences, I checked "prevent activity sleep...". The problem remains.
Could someone help me?
Thanks in advance! :)

Hello,
Thank you very much!
But I don't really dare to dive into these manipulations.
I'll manage with this problem since it's partially resolved. I now know how to wake it up from sleep, even though the screen looks really weird for a few seconds, and the mouse cursor is stuck for a bit. In the end, I still manage to get it back.

Good evening,
Have you checked the "Energy Saver" in the system preferences?
Since you haven't mentioned which OS you're on, I can't give you more details, but generally, that's where it's set.
It's best to avoid any hasty maneuvers, or you risk messing everything up.

When everything has failed, read the manual ;)

Hello,
Thank you for your response. I am running OS Mojave (10.14.5).
Yes, I went to the “Energy Saver” preferences and checked “prevent automatic sleep when the display is off,” but that doesn't change anything. I don't see any other options that could fix this.
After all my research, it seems that it cannot be disabled.
Any ideas?

Good evening,
according to this page, to exit this mode, you just need to press the power button, among other things:

I can't test it; my Mac is too old and doesn't have this mode.
Best regards.
p.s.: hi dede ;-), is it not too hot in Annecy?

Thank you! I did this this morning. Start button, one click of the mouse. Then, the screen went from gray (with the white bar and my desktop as a watermark) to something super strange, indescribable visually (full of bluish spots, I don’t know how else to say it), then I got my standard desktop back, cursor frozen for a little while. And then everything went back to normal.
All of this seems a bit strange to me anyway...

Hello,
You can also do what is suggested at the end of this article: https://support.apple.com/fr-fr/guide/mac-help/mchlp2995/mac
Namely:
- Reset the System Management Controller (SMC).
- Reset the NVRAM memory.
- Disconnect external devices (other than your Apple display, mouse, and keyboard). If the problem is resolved, reconnect the devices one by one until you identify the one that disrupts the computer's sleep or wake functions. Refer to the documentation provided with that device, or contact the manufacturer.
- Boot in Safe Mode, to check if the issue is related to a login item, a kernel extension, or a third-party startup item.
- Try to identify the issue using another user account.
