Hello,
I have some questions and am looking for an affordable solution regarding printing in white on sheets for creating water-based transfer decals.
1 - Can we refill a color inkjet cartridge 'x' with white ink that is available on the market? It seems possible to put white ink in place of black after properly cleaning/rinsing the cartridge.
2 - Touching up the image and changing everything that is white to black after making the background transparent, which will not be printed.
3 - Installing the refilled black cartridge with white ink into the printer.
Normally, what is black in the image to be printed should come out in white.
What do you think?
Thank you for your observations on this process that seems doable to me.

Good evening,
Indeed, the process is correct, create on the computer in black what you want in white.
Where I have more doubts is regarding the possibility of putting white in a black cartridge. In ink cartridges, there is a sort of sponge to prevent leaks. However, everything needs to be rinsed out, and I wish you good luck with that. I'm not so sure that the cartridges can be disassembled without damaging them.
Have a good evening.

After a brief search, many companies buy our empty ink cartridges, but I haven't found anyone to buy them.
Otherwise, yes, it is indeed a solution, but 3D prints are often not very sturdy, and we can't guarantee the product's tightness. Additionally, it would be quite a hassle to recover the circuits from the cartridge and reintegrate them. Not to mention the modeling time for the cartridge with ultra-precise dimensions to fit your printer. But yes, it is possible, with a lot of patience. -

Site: CDIscount or Amazon after a simple search.
I had a doubt and your answer about the sponge clarified things for me. Thank you.
I will try the experience.
1 liter of white ink under €40, empty cartridges €20, a little touch-up on the image, it's always more economical than a printer who will want a minimum quantity or a printer that does white natively at an unaffordable price for personal sheets in single or very small quantities.
Good evening.

The idea is interesting, but I doubt it will work for making water transfer decals.
For the ink to adhere to the substrate, it needs to penetrate the part that will be the transferable support, and for a decal, it is not dye-based inks that will do it; rather, it would require encapsulated ink (like, for example, the K3 series from Epson).
With Epson printers equipped with this type of ink, we can print substrates intended for "water-printing" or "Hydro dipping." (not easy to find in France... we only find pre-printed films)...
