Add subtitles on Blu-ray player.

Hello,
I would like to buy a Blu-ray player, but I have a question: can you add subtitles (on a USB stick, for example) to a film played on a standalone Blu-ray player?

Let me explain: on my PC, when I watch a DVD in the original version, I usually add subtitles from sites like OpenSubtitles to replace the subtitles on the DVD. This allows me to manage the font size, color, or simply get a different translation. With players like MediaPlayer or VLC, I just need to drop them onto the image.

But since I can't read Blu-rays on my PC, I'm considering buying a Blu-ray player. So if I start playing the Blu-ray, is there a menu that allows me to add a subtitle file? My idea would be to put a subtitle file on USB and select it during playback, but is this possible? It would allow me to buy an import film and watch it with French subtitles, for example.

Thank you in advance for your responses.

    Hello,

On a a PC, you use a single and unique player like VLC (software) for example, which allows you to add external subtitles.

This is not possible from a hardware player like a Blu-ray that allows you to read a disc or a video via the USB port. It's either one or the other; you cannot combine the two things.

    Best regards

Thank you very much for this response.

But then how can I buy a Blu-ray and watch it with external subtitles like I do with DVDs?
If the home player doesn't do it, I only have the PC left.
But on PC, I believe I need a special disc player, right? And maybe another software other than VLC too?

      To read a Blu-ray, you absolutely need a Blu-ray player/burner.
After that, I’m not sure if VLC, MPC-HC, or similar can read these discs because there are, in principle, protections on them (Cinavia, for example) that make a Blu-ray disc intended to be played on a home player. In this case, you also need to have a suitable paid software player that allows the addition of external subtitles... I don't know if there are any free options...

Finally, if illegal solutions exist, I won't discuss them here as it goes against the Charter.
