    Three possibilities:
    - Batteries installed the wrong way.
    - Batteries are dead.
    - Handset is off (Long press on the "Hang Up" button to turn the handset on/off).

     Very difficult to catch a black cat in a dark room.
                                  Especially when it's not there...
