I had the same problem as all of you with the "reel" icon flashing constantly at the top, just like the base light; it got fixed with the "default settings".

Moreover, I was asking myself the same question as Rubs, and after numerous tests, I reached a conclusion that may be a bit easy but seems justified to me: I think there is actually an error in the manual!

Indeed, it says for the cassette symbol "Steady: indicates new voice messages on the answering machine", and there is no indication of what the flashing symbol means. And it turns out that when there is a voice message on the answering machine, the symbol flashes. I therefore think it is normal for the symbol to be present "by default" and that the indication in the manual should have been "Flashing: indicates new voice messages on the answering machine".
This theory is confirmed by the fact that when the answering machine is disabled, the symbol disappears; the indication in the manual would therefore be "Steady: Indicates that the answering machine is activated".

In the end, I really struggled to sort everything out [especially for those who cannot use the device's answering machine; I had to adjust it through the Orange website, in the options of "My phone over the internet" (and not in the voicemail options, be careful), the number of rings before switching to voicemail to 9 to be able to enjoy the phone's answering machine] but I am quite satisfied with the final product, which was not too expensive to purchase.

In fact, the phone should have been allowed to return to the main screen by itself after the modifications.
If we go back ourselves by pressing the button that is used to hang up, it doesn't work.

To respond to your Orange messaging, just dial 888 and either delete your messages or keep them, but especially delete your missed calls, otherwise it will always flash. For the second call, I had never managed to answer, and I was told to press R2 (the same button as the voicemail) to connect to the incoming call while putting your current caller on hold! APPARENTLY, because I haven't been able to test it yet! Otherwise, the star43# should also work! There you go.
