Hello
Please, I need your help. I always use MSMONEY but for the past 2/3 months I've been having a lot of problems. When closing, I get an error message "a small window opens and displays the message "unable to perform this operation" ???? (I wonder what operation). Following this, MSMONEY won't open anymore because it says it is already open. OK, I reboot my PC and then MSMONEY is empty, no entries appear. I do backups from time to time, the backups work but I always have to redo all my entries. I have also archived some entries, I installed and reinstalled MSMONEY and nothing works. To be honest, I'm a bit fed up with having to redo all my entries. Please, can you help me? I am on Windows 10. Best regards.

Hello;

I suggest you do what is noted below as long as you have a recent valid backup!

1► Completely and thoroughly uninstall MsMoney by following the instructions at >> This link
2► Restart the machine
3► Reinstall MsMoney by following the instructions at >> This link

In your case, I actually think the best solution would be to start from scratch...that is to say, from January 1, 2019, to maintain a healthy accounting since you mentioned having modified your entries several times...etc... For your information, regular backups are necessary....I would even say after every entry to avoid accumulating or managing errors.....(on what medium do you make your backups?)

In principle, properly uninstalling MsMoney corrects its bugs in 98% of cases provided there have been no false manipulations during the entry of previous movements...
If problems arise....Come back here!

Good evening Jmarion3,
I have carefully followed your procedure but unfortunately the entries in Money still do not appear. My backup works. I don't understand anything. Money is installed on a USB stick and I back it up on the same stick by making a copy. The copy works while the original doesn't. The strangest thing is that I had just made the copy after reading that damn message "unable to perform this operation." Thank you for your help, it's really very kind of you. Your explanations were clear but I just haven't had any luck. Thanks again and have a good evening. Best regards.

Hello;

Why install MsMoney on a USB stick?? >> It needs to be installed in the programs directory!

I suggest you install MsMoney via the link I sent you earlier..... Once it's installed correctly, you don't worry about your backup for now.... Just create 1 account and perform 2 or 3 transactions to check if MsMoney is working well!
And if that's the case, close MsMoney..... and restart it from your last valid backup made on your USB stick..... and if it's still not okay, the problem lies with that backup....
See you later (tomorrow because I'm going to bed now...)

Best regards

Hello Jmarion3,
I mispoke, my files are only on the USB drive, not the software.
Your MsMoney is working well. Only my original files won't open anymore.
My backup files on the USB drive open correctly.
I've been having trouble for 2/3 months and it always happens after that damn message when closing.
Right away, I make a copy on the same USB drive. The copy works, but not the original. It's incomprehensible.
From now on, I'll automatically make a copy.
Thanks again for your valuable help, your explanations, and your links.
Wishing you a sunny day.
Best regards.

Hello ...

Thank you for the response...
Unless I’m mistaken ..and if MsMoney works properly after reinstallation I think the issue comes from a backup ...
When you say "my files" are on a USB key... I assume you’re referring to your backups?
It’s true that sometimes MsMoney closes improperly and thinks it’s still open if you try to relaunch it... For that you need to do Alt+Delete >> End task and it’s all good!
Personally, I don’t really like backups on USB keys... I’ve been doing that on a CD/RW for over 10 years now and never had any issues ....
If you have a CD/RW handy, I can "tell" you how to set up MsMoney to do it automatically... but this afternoon as I have to go out
See you later for your upcoming comments: But if none >> Topic resolved

Hello Jmarion3,
No, my files are indeed on a USB drive. I often travel, so I can continue to manage my accounts. Only the software is on the PC.
My laptop doesn't have a CD drive. (cheaper to buy).
Thank you for your help and for taking the time to respond to me. I’ ll repeat myself, but it’s really very kind of you. I will reply that the issue is resolved.
Thanks again and have a good evening
Best regards
