One-way Instagram video call

Hello,

I received a video call from a "friend." I couldn't see or hear him, while he could.
Why? (I had asked him to chat live to verify his identity, because he's a very handsome guy and I'm afraid of dealing with a fake Instagram account). Is it possible that he made it so I couldn't see or hear him? And how? By muting the conversation?
Then, since the call wasn't really conclusive on my end, I asked him to do a FaceTime (he claims to have an iPhone) and he replied that he didn't know how to do it (!!!) and that this FaceTime thing made him uncomfortable (!!!). That's when he suggested we go on Hangouts instead.. Honestly, my doubts intensified there. Am I dealing with another one of those too many Scammers?

Thank you!!!

Configuration: iPhone / Chrome 71.0.3578.89

    Good evening,

Am I dealing with another one of those too numerous Embroiderers?

Given the history, I fear so.

Not using Instagram, I can't comment on the technique used, but for the rest...

Thank you for responding. But I found the source of the "problem" with the connection (absence of sound and image). I tested a video call with another friend, and everything worked perfectly. Each of us could see and hear the other. In fact, the connection problem with my other interlocutor was actually a "false" problem since he (probably) deliberately muted his microphone and camera (the two icons are located at the top of the Instagram live message screen) so that I wouldn't discover his real identity, it seems, and thus push me to open a Hangouts account where everything would have been set up to better scam me!

I am angry with my own gullibility. Identity theft is a scourge. One becomes so easily gullible in front of beautiful photos on social media!????

        Hello,

You shouldn't be angry about your gullibility; on the contrary, you reacted quite well; you had doubts, you did your research, you hypothesized that it might be a scammer; we don't have proof, but it's as obvious as Christmas isn't in July.
You can be angry with those useless people who ruin others' lives, but not with yourself. Just tell yourself it wasn't the right one...
As for social media, indeed it’s just smoke and mirrors; life is lived elsewhere.
