Date of photo capture

Hello everyone,

I am currently sorting some photos, but the dates indicated in the menu do not match the dates when the photos were taken.

I would like to know how I can find the true dates of my photos?
Without using software? By using software?
Thank you for your help.

    Good evening,

By right-clicking on the photo => Properties => Details tab, you should be able to see the date taken if your device was set to the correct date.

    Hello

By default, Windows often displays the "modified" dates.

Depending on the version of Windows, it is possible to change the display to show the file creation date instead.

    Best regards

    Thank you for your responses.

Unfortunately, neither of your two proposals works, the dates do not match. :(

      Do not correspond to what?
To your memories? Or to a date displayed and visible elsewhere?
Because our "things" indeed provide the creation date of the file as it is "recorded" in the file.
And in this case, it may be the device's date that is problematic (see Chipie13200)

    Do not correspond to reality.
Being at the beach in broad daylight at 3 a.m. in France seems complicated to me... ^^

This confirms that your device is not set to the correct date and time, as madmyke and I suggest.

Alright, but I don't understand why some photos have the correct dates and others do not.

Difficult to answer you precisely without knowing more details about your device.

And since a camera does nothing "on its own," human error is the most likely cause.
As for how difficult it is, that's hard to say without going back in time.
However, one could easily imagine that by never controlling this parameter, it could have gotten misadjusted due to handling of the device itself, or that the camera, depending on the model, might have found itself without any power source for a given time; it could also have updated "on its own" because some import software has a function that synchronizes the camera with the PC's time when connected.
      Etc.

In short, it is impossible to know in retrospect, and it's better to be familiar with the aspects of your camera (by reading the manual) to at least avoid mistakes in the future.
