Hello,
I used to set retention rules for certain folders in my messaging system.
At the beginning of this year, I created new folders and wanted to set retention rules for these new folders.
To my great surprise, when I open the folder settings, the option in question no longer exists. (I have a screenshot, but I don't know how to attach it to you).
Having found nothing online, I turn to you to hopefully provide me with an answer and I thank you in advance.
Best regards.

Hello psk61,
If we are indeed talking about Thunderbird, to my knowledge, there are no retention rules other than the server settings of an account configured as POP.
This setting defines the duration that a copy of messages already read by Thunderbird remains in the server's inbox. Is that correct?
P.S: To insert an image, click on the icon representing a mountain at the top of the editing area and choose the file to insert from the hard drive. -
hello
right-click on the folder -> Properties -> Retention rules -
Hello,
Thank you for considering my comment.
As I mentioned in a previous message, when clicking on the properties of a folder, a window would open with the following options:
- General information
- Retention rules
- Synchronization
- Sharing
- Quotas
This was verified on Thunderbird version 52.9.1 32-bit on Windows XP.
I find it unfortunate that these options are not carried over or that I have not been able to find them.
Currently, I am using Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS and Thunderbird 60.04.0 64-bit.
For now, I have nothing else to provide as information and I hope this will be sufficient to answer my questions.
With all my thanks,
Best regards -
Hello psk61
The current version of Thunderbird is 60.5.0
Moreover, Thunderbird no longer supports Windows XP (and Vista).
In the current version, clicking on "properties" of any folder displays the tabs:
- General information
- Retention rules -
Hello Serbal22,
I just installed version 60.5.0 and I can see the "Retention Rules" feature.
Many thanks SerBal22 for your reply.
Have a good evening,
Best regards
