GMAIL account unable to configure in MAIL (MAC OS) after password change

Hello everyone,
I've been using Gmail for years and the mail app on my MacBook.
Yesterday morning, I received an email from Google explaining that an attempt to access my account had been blocked and that I needed to change my password. So I did.
My mail client on my MacBook no longer works, which is understandable.
I deleted the email account to recreate it with the new password: impossible. The mail app, which works fine with two other addresses, refuses to accept my new address.
I configure the address in Accounts, I enter the correct password, I respond to Google’s two-step verification (I tried both with and without it), the account seems to be accepted and recognized. Everything seems fine.
Then as soon as I launch Mail, it crashes and I can't do anything except "force quit" Mail, then delete my account in "Accounts" and then restart Mail, which works perfectly.
I've tried many options.
I've disabled IMAP.
I've removed the old passwords in "Keychain."
I have the latest versions of Mail (12.2) and OS (Mojave 10.14.3).
Mail works perfectly with my wife’s and father-in-law's Google account (also set up on my Mac).
As soon as I try to set up my Gmail account, the Mail app crashes and I can only exit by "forcing quit."
Finally, in a desperate attempt, I just installed Thunderbird, and everything works fine.
Could someone please tell me what’s going on and how to reconcile Mail with a Google account?
Thank you in advance.
Pierre

Hello,
By any chance, have you thought about deleting the Mail preference file from the Preferences folder of your user account?
It might force you to reconfigure your mail accounts, but it should allow you to recreate your new account.
I'm not on Mojave, so to access your user library and Preferences folder, if it's like in previous OS versions, from the Finder/"Go" menu while holding down the option key, it should appear in the dropdown menu.
