New Lenovo laptop, but already very slow

Question

Hello everyone,
And thank you in advance for your help.

I recently bought a new Lenovo computer, the same as this one:

Processor: Pentium 4415U, 2M Cache, 2.30 GHz, Threads 4
Internal Memory: 4G DDR4 2133 ONBOARD RAM
Storage: 1 TB SATA HDD 5400 rpm
Display Type: 17.3" HD (1600 x 900)
Operating System: Windows 10 Home 64

I haven't installed any programs other than Chrome, and I have uninstalled everything that was unnecessary. Disabled startup programs, the CD drive,...

I've used the computer about ten times for word processing and internet. Even YouTube videos in fullscreen lag! Programs take ages to open, everything takes a considerable amount of time. What really surprises me for a new computer, given that my previous computer, an HP, was 9 years old, had a good hundred viruses, was running out of memory and still worked better!

Does anyone have a clue to explain this?
The specs didn’t seem too bad for the usage I make of it, yet...

The computer is now running normally:

Here are the actions taken that might be useful to others:

1. Factory reset of the computer
2. Uninstallation of all unnecessary programs
3. Disabling microphone, webcam, cards,…

Hi,

New doesn’t mean efficient.

With an (ultra) entry-level and economical processor on top of that, performance is often very light.

Is your machine not doing Windows updates in the background?

Do you have any software running in the background?

What does the task manager say about the resource usage of the machine?

I don't think there are any background updates (needs further investigation)

The task manager shows the disk at 100% even when no application is running, which I don't understand.

I completely agree with Judge, the CPU and especially the hard drive aren't worth a dime.
Your 9-year-old HP, I assume you didn't buy it for €250 :)
Any activity on the disk guarantees slowness.

The link you provided is definitely not the price you paid for it, because on top of that, you got ripped off; it's €250 on Cdiscount, and for €250 you only get cheap commercial crap.

There is "slow" and slow! It's true the processor isn't lightning fast, but that shouldn't prevent it from working "normally".

So, definitely a CLEAN reinstall of Windows 10 would restore the PC to better condition.
