Hello,
I had an EPSON SX 130 that no longer recognized cartridges that were not from its brand.
I found the same model.
I just replugged the 2 cables (USB + Power) on the new device, but my PC doesn't accept this maneuver and acts as if it's a new printer, adding a "+ copy" to the same name.
I keep deleting this new device created without my consent and only keeping the identity of the old one, but the computer tells me that the remaining one, the old one, has migrated (in May 2018) and is not connected.
So does the computer recognize a specific device and not just a model?
Since the new model accepted my cartridges (which the old one didn't), I would like to keep the saved settings, as I'm afraid of ending up in the same total blockage situation if I reinstall everything with updated software (I don't have the original CD).
This is the problem of the spy feature that rejects non-brand cartridges.
What do you advise me to do?
Configuration: Windows / Firefox 64.0

Hello,
"Does the computer recognize a specific device and not just a model?"
The answer is yes.
Each network device is identified by its MAC address.
https://www.noodo-wifi.com/faq/adresse-mac/
Your two printers have different MAC addresses, and the computer sees two different devices.
So you should follow the advice of STARGATE43: completely uninstall the first printer.
Best regards.

Hi GENIA,
It’s simple, don’t update the "new" printer; moreover, updates on printers are useless and I speak from experience ;-)
I still have my little Epson Stylus SX125 (exactly the same as the SX130) which first started working on my old Windows XP. An update was proposed to me, I thought, "Why not," and in the end, I only had troubles. So I completely uninstalled the drivers, ran CCleaner to remove all traces of my printer from the Windows XP registry, reinstalled since the installation CD was provided, and this printer started working like it did on day one.
My Windows XP gave up on me (R.I.P.), which led to a new installation of the drivers, I didn’t accept any proposed updates and it now works perfectly on my Windows 7 Home Premium Edition.
A little clarification, I have never used generic cartridges, sooner or later it causes problems with the printer (cartridge not recognized, refusal to print, etc...).
Regards ;-)

Hello,
I think the only way for the computer to recognize this other printer of the same model is to completely uninstall the driver of the old printer while being careful to back up/copy the settings of it, run Ccleaner to erase any trace of the old printer, and then reinstall the drivers for the "new" printer.
Use Ccleaner to remove the driver of the old printer → https://www.commentcamarche.net/telecharger/utilitaires/5647-ccleaner/#q=Ccleaner&cur=1&url=%2F ←, if you are not familiar with this cleaning tool, follow the tutorial ;-)
If you need advice on using Ccleaner, feel free to ask ;-)
Then download the driver from the Epson page →https://www.epson.fr/products/printers/inkjet-printers/for-home/epson-stylus-sx130#drivers← and install it.
That doesn't mean the "new" printer will accept generic cartridges, but it will be recognized by the PC.
Hoping to have helped you somewhat ;-)
Best regards ;-)

Thank you for teaching me that the computer differentiated between the 2 printers.
But I already used the removal of the old one in the settings.
For the new one, it tells me that it is not connected (even though it is) and does not print when I ask it to.
Why can't we use the driver that's already in place, since it's neutral and not tied to a specific model?
So, do you think I should install a newly downloaded driver?
But since this one is just a model with an update, I might find myself with a new spy that blocks my ability to use "clone" cartridges.
It's very risky!
Well, if it happens again, this time I will change brands.
I believe this specialty is only with EPSON.

Thank you STARGATE43 for sharing your experience.
It’s very interesting.
Indeed, the SX125 and 130 are sisters.
The problem is that the last printer I bought second-hand was provided to me without the original installation CD.
This forces me to download the driver offered by the manufacturer, so the latest updated version.
Furthermore, I really can't afford to pay for EPSON ink, which is exorbitantly priced (excessive), considering that generic options are 10 times cheaper, for a similar result in the end.
Thank you for your message.
Best regards.

Problem still not resolved!
I don't know if it's the printer, the driver, or the cartridges.
My last SX 130 printer bought second-hand is not working properly (to say the least!).
After removing all traces of the previous printer, I downloaded the software from the EPSON website, then connected the new one with new generic cartridges.
It recognized and accepted them well.
But when I decided to print a Word page: after hearing it work = nothing on the paper.
So I undertook a head cleaning: still nothing on the pages.
But the surprise was elsewhere: With each attempt, the ink level dropped drastically: one third the first time, black even more, and all colors, except for yellow.
This happens even when I initiate a print job and there isn’t one.
It’s showing 25% ink level left and it’s starting to worry me. They’re all going to run out before I even get a single print done!!!
I didn’t download the latest driver update because I was afraid of encountering the cartridge recognition blockage from EPSON.
On the paper, I have just a tiny blue line at the top right, barely readable, with a series of symbols (they aren't even letters or numbers).
Should I tempt fate by downloading a driver update?

Hello GENIA,
This might seem radical to you, but why don’t you buy a new printer? There are some quite decent ones starting at €50; as for the brand, I won’t name any, that’s a choice you need to make yourself ;-)
For my part, my little Epson Stylus SX125 has been working perfectly since its “reinstallation” on my Windows 7 Home Premium PC, it has been at least 5 years of good and loyal service, but with Epson cartridges...
I have never used generic cartridges because sooner or later they cause issues with the printer, and this is true regardless of the brand or range. It’s true that branded cartridges are more expensive, but there are definitely far fewer problems; just read the number of topics opened right here on CCM about printers that refuse to print with generic cartridges...
Best regards and have a good evening ;-)
