Hello,
I'm reaching out to you because my girlfriend had her computer running really poorly (a Dell XPS that's not that bad, after all). After some issues I had with mine, I had done a complete reinstallation using a USB stick.
I then wanted to do the same thing, but during the partition creation just before installation, it only creates two partitions (one recovery type and another system type). Then I click on "new" again (when I'm on disk 0 unallocated space), and it creates the 4 partitions as "normal".
However, before starting the installation on partition 4 of system type, it tells me: Windows cannot be installed on this disk. The disk may fail soon. If other disks are available, install Windows in a different location.
I don't really know what to do...
Thank you very much for your help
Damien

Good evening,
To test the HDD with this:
https://www.commentcamarche.net/telecharger/utilitaires/6735-crystaldiskinfo/
(extract the downloaded folder and then run the file "64" or "32" depending on whether your PC is 64 or 32 bits)
Connect your HDD to a working PC or externally.
(by the way, desktop or laptop? because both exist in this range)
or
install Windows if you can and test the HDD afterwards.

But yes, I recommend this software although it is not mentioned, but the only problem is whether the PC will read a hard drive Lens that is expected to fail?
But there are many unclear points:
_ he talks about small partitions, but they are usually not visible in the table during the installation because they are created after the installation starts. This could mean he saw them under Windows in the disk manager. So is there no installation, or is he trying to reinstall over the existing one?
_ Is his PC a laptop or a desktop, and what other PC does he have nearby? This is to guide him on possible connections.
I didn't quite understand your question, but it’s enough for him to be able to launch the CrystalDiskInfo analysis; the result will just be accurate. Whether it's from a working PC or from the possibly faulty hard drive, it doesn’t change anything.
But there is a strong chance his disk is dead given the initial issues and the error message.
Or we need to buy another one, but there is definitely a solution....
