Windows 7 Installation from CD Impossible - Freeze Before Boot

Hello,
After opening a forum on some issues with my computer (a forum where I received quick and effective help, for which I'm very grateful), it seems that I need to reinstall Windows. I have the official installation DVD of Windows 7 32-bit SP1, and a license key ready to be used. Everything would be fine if I could boot from the CD!

I have changed the boot order, and the DVD drive is first on the list. I even disabled floppy drive booting just in case.

Also, my computer never starts unless I press escape during the manufacturer's screen with all the options. I randomly tested that one day and it's the only method that works. The escape key is linked, during the boot screen, to the 'Enable Start Message' function. And when I press it, I see a lot of writings that seem to be various information about the state of the computer. One thing intrigues me: apart from the fact that this is the only way to boot the computer, I can see messages flashing by at lightning speed with phrases like:

"Resource conflict", "Bus 02", that kind of thing.

And now I'm in distress. No one seems to agree whether it's hardware or software. I think it's a bit of both (which doesn't help much...) because it happened suddenly.

And we come to the real problem: Unable to start the DVD-ROM because... it freezes as soon as I press a key!
Edit: It did the same in the Windows boot menu.
I see a message telling me to press any key to start the DVD - followed by little dots that progress until reaching the end of the screen - and if I press, the dots stop and nothing happens. I also tried waiting without pressing, but my Windows launches!

Thanks in advance to anyone who is willing to respond.

PS: Note that the computer only displays a white underscore ("_") on a black background if I do not press escape during the boot screen, and that when I press escape, I have very little time to see messages like "Resource conflict," etc. (I wouldn't give it more than a second or two)

My config:

Computer type: Laptop
Computer: HP
Model: Pavilion DV9500 Entertainment PC
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit SP1
Graphics Processor: NVIDIA GeForce 7150M / nForce 630M (HP)
Hard Drive: 232GB Seagate ST9250827AS ATA Device (SATA)
(hard drive salvaged from a Packard Bell Easynote SL51)
Motherboard: Quanta 30D1 (Socket S1)
Processor: AMD Athlon x2 64 (detected as Mobile AMD Sempron 5000+ by Speccy)
Date of purchase: 2007 (if that could be useful)

Configuration: Windows / Chrome 71.0.3578.98

Hi, in two words your PC does not boot from the Windows installation CD even though the CD-ROM drive is prioritized in the BIOS boot menu?

Yes, but when I press a button to start the DVD, it freezes instantly.

We'll see what happens next...

Hello,

Try using a USB drive larger than 8 GB:

1) Download the Windows ISO that allows you to download the official Microsoft ISOs: Download Windows installation ISOs
2) Create a Windows installation USB drive that will serve as the installation medium for Windows 7: How to create a Windows installation USB drive
3) Boot from it by changing the boot sequence and selecting the USB drive or DVD: How to boot the computer from a USB drive

The Windows 7 setup program will then start...
Follow the instructions in this tutorial: How to install Windows 7.

Thank you very much. I'm going to test with a 16 GB USB flash drive.

I had already extracted the ISO from my official installation CD. Can I use it as is instead of downloading a new ISO of several gigabytes?

Why complicate things and not follow the classic path?

It's not complicated at all! In fact, it's even simpler: I already have this ISO, so I don't need to wait for hours to download an ISO that I already own. I just wanted to know if it was possible to use this one.

You can try while it's downloading, but there will always be a doubt about using an official ISO.

I have a problem. My computer seems to have boot options from USB stick
( The options are:
- USB Floppy
- ATAPI CD/DVD ROM Drive
- USB Floppy Stick
- USB Hard Drive
- Portable Hard Drive
- Network Adapter (! means it is not available)
)

However, by setting all options other than the hard disk to first and having my USB stick properly connected, which was previously set up with Rufus to be bootable, the computer still boots into Windows. Seriously...

From Windows, check if you are in UEFI or Legacy mode, see this link: https://www.malekal.com/verifier-ordinateur-uefi-bios-legacy/

It's almost the end of the year but still... This PC is supposed to be UEFI! I don't think so > Model: Pavilion DV9500 Entertainment PC

I remind you that the computer is going to be 12 years old. So it would surprise me greatly if it were in UEFI.

I hadn't noticed the purchase date.

Absolutely the same problem!!!
I managed to make the USB drive bootable, but as soon as I select "USB hard drive", it shows me a text EXACTLY like for the CD/DVD ROM:

"Press any key to boot from USB" or something like that
and the moment I press any key, it freezes completely.

I've been at it for 7 hours non-stop and I must say I'm cracking.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Download the ISO overnight and try with Rufus by setting it to MBR.
Or you can burn another DVD.

It wouldn't change anything: I can't use DVDs or a USB stick, the freezing issue is the same.

If you have the skills to open the laptop or at least access the hard drive, there should be a cover underneath that houses the hard drive. You remove the hard drive and try booting from your CD; if it boots into the installation procedure, it simply means your hard drive is dead. You might even reach the Install screen, but it won't find any hard drive. In conclusion: either you replace the hard drive or you replace the laptop. Given its age, it would be wiser to look for a new laptop.

See you tomorrow perhaps for more information.

I have already disassembled the computer several times, piece by piece, to access the graphics chipset. I can therefore easily access the hard drive. Moreover, as I mentioned in my first post, this is already a replaced hard drive. The previous one was already defective.

Would it be dangerous in your opinion to start the CD and then connect the hard drive? No risk of short circuit?
PS: The freeze bug also occurred with the other hard drive. And the "resource conflict" at startup was also there before.

Thank you and see you tomorrow maybe.

Have you checked if any BIOS updates are available?

Maybe a CMOS reset can help.
