Hello,
I have a Toshiba Satellite C855 from 2012 running Windows 7 Home Premium. I take care of my equipment with antivirus, antispyware, a good CHKDSK /f /r once a month, and an SFC /Scannow from time to time. However, I realize that my equipment is aging.
This morning, I just ran SFC /scannow and at the end of the scan, I was informed that some damaged items were found but could not be repaired. Looking at the LOG file, I see that the only "errors" concern packages (of updates) that could not be opened. The error lines look like this:
Failed to internally open package. [HRESULT = 0x800f0805 - CBS_E_INVALID_PACKAGE]
Should I be worried? I’ve looked for an explanation but couldn’t find a convincing one. It’s said that maybe Windows Update is malfunctioning, but I had successful updates just three days ago.
EDIT: I just ran the Windows Update diagnostics tool and it tells me: "the service registration is corrupt or missing > Not fixed". I’m looking into this aspect.
If anyone can guide me towards an explanation and solution, thank you!

Hi,
The error you mentioned, I doubt it has a real impact.
We need to check if there are any system files listed as being corrupted.
Look for lines: [SR] Cannot repair member file
More information on reading SFC reports: https://www.malekal.com/sfc-windows-lire-cbs-log/.
However, on Windows 7, CBS repair is very limited.
In particular, the DISM command does not allow repairing certain issues.
Otherwise, do you have any specific problems?

Hello. No particular problem, just that I regularly maintain my PC to make it last a bit longer. For example, by running a CHKDSK from DOS, I was notified of errors, so I restarted a SCANDISK on boot. Now, while running my SCANNOW, I'm being told there are errors, so I'm looking to fix them before a crash. But aside from my PC slowing down at times (6 and a half years old), I don't have any specific issues.
I tried repairing Windows Update via the big patch I found on SOS PC, which had worked well for me at work, but it didn't change anything, and in any case, my updates install fine.
As for the DISM tool, I feel like the image file is no longer available because I tried this on an old Win7 to boost it, and the operation failed, same on my own PC. -
As long as it works, it's better not to touch anything.
First, check the hard drive: How to check the health of the hard drive
For example, with CrystalDiskInfo.
On this last one, make sure that all the drives are in blue "correct".
