Hello everyone,

I was given a laptop to try to fix it, but I admit I’m a bit stuck with laptops.

It's an HP Pavilion 15-p050nf.

It's a student who owns this, and it’s been a while since sometimes it wouldn't start, but by trying several times it would eventually boot up, but now it doesn’t want to respond at all.

I potentially have an error code, but I can't find any information on the HP website.
When I turn on the PC, the LED on the Caps Lock key blinks, with 2 slow blinks followed by a longer pause before repeating the 2 blinks continuously.

Whether I’m plugged in or not.

The simple tests I have performed:
The charger voltage is at 20V (unloaded).
When I plug in the charger, the LED next to the connector lights up orange continuously, indicating battery charging.
The same test with the battery disconnected, this LED next to the connector stays on in white.

But every time I try to turn it on, the Caps Lock LED blinks the same way.

Nothing on the screen, it stays off, no backlight.
No beeping.

To turn off the PC (which is blinking) I have to hold down the Power button; a simple press is not enough.

If you have any ideas, it’s a shame because it’s in perfect condition, with an i5, more than sufficient for her use.

Hi, you can try removing the battery and the power cord, press the ON button for 30 seconds, then put everything back and try again.

Hello,

It's good, I succeeded yesterday.
Actually, the blinking of the lock LED is indeed an error code; after some effort, I managed to find the right document by answering several questions on the HP website.

Normally, blinking twice indicates a BIOS failure; it is corrupted. The proposed solution is to start the PC while holding the Windows and B keys. Indeed, doing this causes the blinking to occur after about 10 seconds.
But it doesn't work, though.

In the list, there is also the six blinks, which isn't my case, but it also helps to repair the BIOS. You have to start with the four arrow keys.

And then, miracle, it starts.

Once in Windows, I launched the BIOS update, it restarted and then got stuck again, but by starting it with the four keys, it restarted and initiated the flash procedure.

Since then, no more issues. I've been doing lots of tests on it, but nothing crashes or seems unstable, like the hard drive, which is slow but not catastrophic.
