Good evening,
here is sometimes what I see in my task manager:

I have the service host using a lot of resources for some reason.
I am on Windows 8.1 with an ASUS R752LN laptop.

Could you explain to me what it is for, and if it's normal for it to use so many resources please?
Thank you :)

Hello,

The list is sorted in memory and not on disk.

Start by running a DISM Repair

Right-click on the "Start" menu and then "Command Prompt (admin)" or use a Cortana search:
https://www.malekal.com/wp-content/uploads/ouvrir-invite-commandes-administrateur-Windows10.gif

In the black window, enter the following two commands while letting the analysis take place:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
DISM /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

(note, there is a space in front of each command starting with / /Online /Cleanup-image etc)

Restart.

You can run a SFC Repair

Right-click on the "Start" menu and then "Command Prompt (admin)",
Type sfc /scannow in the window.

It should tell you that the protection has detected damaged items,
that you need to restart to be able to fix them. At that point, restart.

Hi, thanks for your message.

I did the following: DISM /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
I got this message "The component store is repairable. The operation was successful."

Then I did: DISM /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
I received the message "The restoration completed successfully. The store... The operation was successful."

Then I rebooted properly.

Next, I did: sfc /scannow
I got the message "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations...."

All of this was done in admin mode for the command prompt.

Is there any improvement?
Can you provide a screenshot of the task manager sorted by the disk column?

No, it couldn't have been better. I formatted my computer (restored it to factory settings) and it's like night and day. Problem solved :)
