Internet in Spain

Hello,
I spend a few months of the year in Spain where I had an Orange internet subscription that I canceled because I was paying too much (from €60 to €80). Do you have a more economical solution, knowing that in France I have an ADSL + landline subscription with Bouygues? Thank you.

Configuration: iPad / Safari 602.1

Hello Corentin, Bouygues doesn't offer it, Orange (France) is only proposing 4G for one month, but I spend about 6 months in Spain. Thanks anyway.

OK, but in Spain it's super expensive! Thank you for replying. Have a good evening.

      Unfortunately, that's how it is...

If you have a residence in Spain, that's where you need to subscribe.

In reality, you say it's "super expensive" ... Well, no, in Spain, those are the prices in Europe. It's actually France that is underpricing its subscriptions and is much cheaper than neighboring countries.

In Belgium, it's 2 to 4 times more expensive than in France for equivalent services. ;-)

Indirectly, we have a technological advantage...

We've had VDSL since 2005-2006, while in France it took until 2013 and even 2014 for authorization to deploy it across the entire territory... Almost 10 years longer than here... :-)

And when we know that here we are using VDSL3 (Vecto), with the capacity to push on lines of >2Km in a few months... While in France, VDSL is not quite there yet either :-(

And for us, VDSL was the intermediate step towards fiber, as it involved placing cabinets in the streets and therefore already bringing the optics closer to homes...

But why do I have access to the Internet (cellular data) with my smartphone in Spain with a €9 Free subscription? I don't understand. In any case, thank you for your participation.

Because your Free subscription has data GB... and so you can use them. However, using them for 6 consecutive months is against the terms and you will get canceled or charged extra sooner or later.

    Hello Goya,

    Judge_DT is right:

If you have a residence in Spain, that's where you need to subscribe.

One might think about using a French smartphone with, for example, 5GB in the EU, but that's very little and it will quickly be blocked by your operator if you stay 6 months in Spain!
It’s clearly stated in the terms under "reasonable use" because your operator pays the Spanish operator if you are roaming.
In practice, you will go over your allowance after 3 to 4 months, unless you keep a low profile by using very little data while roaming...

A local subscription is more expensive than in France but not unmanageable (at least on my island):
I personally subscribed in Spain to a fiber plan for €31/month for the first year and then €44/month for 100 Mbps symmetrical, with unlimited calls to landlines but without TV.

Who were you with to pay €60 to €80/month?
If you are also on an island, it can be pricier because they have to lay fiber from the mainland.

Try to shop around, one year on promotion with Movistar, the next with Orange or Vodafone...

PS: here are the prices from Orange Spain for example (watch out for promotional prices as you need to add the connection cost each month):

Thank you Marcmarais, I see more clearly now and will inquire with Vodaphone, Movistar. Have a good day.

    Hello,

Try to check with Bouygues if their 4G box works in Spain.
At least you could easily transport it and have internet access wherever you want!

It's not the case. A 4G Box is intended for installation at home in France as a replacement for an ADSL connection.

You need to read the terms of the offer before suggesting anything.

Abroad, you have to subscribe to an internet plan in the country concerned...

Because whether it's 4G or anything else, if it's a significant consumption from a household, they won't let it go on for long.

Here is why I said "Try to check with Bouygues if their 4G box works in Spain."
No one has replied to their post so I'm trying to suggest something!

If it was just to reply to my message and say "before proposing anything." it’s super helpful!
Otherwise, you haven't suggested a better solution!

      Coming from a moderator too!

      Thank you.

You have to read the messages all the way through...

Abroad, you need to subscribe to an internet plan in the country concerned...

It's clearly stated, however, as a solution. 4G Box is Bouygues and in France, not in Spain. For internet connectivity in Spain, you subscribe to a Spanish provider.
