Quickplay buttons hp

Solved

Hello,

I just acquired an HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop and discovered that the "quickplay" buttons are very sensitive.
This bothers me a bit because simply sliding a protective foam between the screen and the keyboard is enough to turn the PC on.
Do you know if it is possible to disable the "quickplay" and "dvd" buttons when the PC is off?
Configuration: Windows Vista Internet Explorer 7.0

Hello.
I had the same problem (button not working) and I contacted HP support via their website.
Here is their response:

Remove the battery and the power adapter (the charger), press and hold the power button for at least 4 minutes.

This procedure helps to discharge the electronic components of the motherboard.

After the 4 minutes, plug in only the charger and test the computer to see if it turns on directly, then test the buttons.

If the issue persists, please update the Quicklaunch Buttons as well as the BIOS of your PC using the links below:

-Quicklaunch buttons update:

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp38001-38500/sp38166.exe

-BIOS update:

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp38001-38500/sp38129.exe

Please save the file before running it by following the on-screen instructions and don’t forget to plug in the power cable before starting the execution.

Hello, I'd like to disable them every time I press the function keys. I hit them and it annoys me. But I don't want to disable the volume controls at the same time...

Hello, I did the opposite, I accidentally disabled the touch buttons and I can't activate them again. If you have any solutions, thank you in advance.

Hi,

Have you found the answer to your question?
Do you know which keys you pressed? I'm also looking to disable them.

Thanks in advance

Oops, no edit possible here.
The solution of removing the battery and pressing the button was enough.
Everything works perfectly again.

Greetings everyone!!! I have resolved the issue with the sensitive button that activates as soon as you get close to the F keys...

Go to your directory: C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Quick Launch Buttons (that was mine at least). Then take the file QULCTRL.EXE located there... and move it (to avoid serious errors).

Once this file is moved, it will prevent the Quickplay and DVD keys from working... if you want to REACTIVATE them, just replace the file back in its place :)

There you go, enjoy it, I won't post this everywhere!!!

Hi,
I have the same problem! The quick play buttons don't work! But what's new is that sometimes they work but not for long (about 5 minutes at most)!! I tried to check if I have these drivers: I went to C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard but I couldn't find ( HP Quick Launch Buttons)!!! I only found (HP Active Support, HP BatteryCheck, HP Info Center, and UAA!) could you tell me where I can find this thing?

Thank you for your help!

Thank you for the info!

I’m adding a little extra detail.
I have an HP Pavilion Dv6599ef (the all-white one :D) and the file was not named “QULCTRL.EXE” but “QLBCTRL.EXE”
The two names are similar and this information might be helpful for those who can't find the exact file.
I imagine that the file names vary depending on the Dv6000 versions.

For my part, instead of moving it, I simply renamed it by adding “_RENAME” to the end of the file name. It’s simpler. Now I just have to remember that to reactivate it, I need to go to that folder :)

Thanks again for your response, which will surely help more than one!

Hello everyone, I have the same problem with the quickplay touch buttons. I tried what you just said, I removed the battery and the charger but it didn’t help, however, the volume and mute buttons are working fine.
What do you recommend I do? Thank you.

To disable all the programs that Hewlett Packard has put on startup, don't forget 'msconfig'.
'Start' then 'Command Prompt' or Windows key + 'r' then
msconfig
in the Startup tab, you will see all the programs that HP allows to start, including 'HP Quick launch button'.

That said, it would be interesting to be able to reconfigure the music playback control keys.
Since the PC comes with Windows, the buttons only work with Windows Media Player... however, as everyone knows, Winamp is much better (just a small shout-out, but rest assured, there are indeed many others that are still better than Media Player).

So far, I have not been able to configure these keys to control my Winamp, so in the end, these keys are useless to me since I never use Windows Media Player.
So yes, for Winamp, there are always the F7 to F11/12 keys that can be useful (actually very useful!). It's just the idea that the shortcut keys that HP planned for music become completely useless in this case...

Can you help me? My problem is as follows: I accidentally deleted the auto-play program for the left key. So when I press it, nothing happens, while the other sound keys work! To be able to use this button, do I absolutely need to have the default program, or can I use it like any other shortcut key? And how do I do that? If I reinstall the program, will it be automatic? Will the program launch when I press it, or do I need to do something?
Thank you for your help.

Hello,

My 2 quick launch buttons just beep and nothing happens. Only the "recorder" buttons are working.

In the Control Panel, I have HP Quick Launch Buttons, but when I open it, I only see the 2 tabs Zoom and Preferences. I'm missing the Multimedia and Function Keys tabs, which are supposed to configure the 2 inactive buttons.
In C:/Program files/hewlett-packard, my HP Quick Launch Buttons directory is complete (to verify this, I copied it from my 2nd identical computer, which works fine.)

In MSconfig, Qlbctrl.exe is indeed running at startup and is active in my processes.

I even tried reinstalling the HP Quick Launch application from my Restore partition, but it doesn't change anything.

Basically, I'm stuck.

Can someone help me out?

Just for your information, I have an HP dv2104ea and I’m running XP SP3.

Continuation of my previous message....

I managed to restore my 2 missing tabs. To do this, I had to uninstall my HP Quick Launch Buttons using REVO uninstaller (which is more robust than the Windows utility or Ccleaner), and then reinstall the same software from my restore partition.

However, the Quickplay button, although perfectly configured, still does not launch Quickplay, while the DVD button does launch Media Center as it should.

Upon checking, a double click on C:/program files/HP/quickplay/QP.exe has no effect, even though it is supposed to launch Quickplay.

Continuation of my previous message ...

To solve my final problem, I proceeded in the same way: uninstalling Quickplay with Revo Uninstaller and then reinstalling it with the Restore partition.

I had to reboot twice for HP Quick Launch to work again...

Mystery... But in any case, after 4 hours of searching, I think I have reached the end.
