Unknown publisher error: unsigned ActiveX

Question

Hello,

I can't install an ActiveX on a web page. I've modified the security settings and enabled ActiveX and plugins, and I've even added the site to the trusted sites. I'm running updated XP Pro as well as updated IE7. And every time I request the installation of the ActiveX, it says, "Windows has blocked this software because it cannot verify the publisher": unknown publisher.

In the advanced settings of internet options, check the box "allow the software to run or install even if the signature is not valid"
and see if that works, try using Firefox, I think it’s better in terms of settings.

I tried checking the box but it still doesn't work. I always get the same message "Unknown editor" and I can't install it. I'll test it with Firefox!

I downloaded Firefox, unfortunately, it does not recognize .do extensions and it cannot open the page to download ActiveX. :(

If you associate the .do extensions in "folder options", it will recognize them (or in Firefox options, file types) content tab
and when you want to open an ActiveX with Firefox, a "window" should open to warn you, and you must accept
in Firefox options, in the security tab, check "warn when sites try to install add-ons"
normally, this is checked by default.

Thank you, I can open pages with .do extensions (I also added my site to the allowed sites for installing add-ons) but I still can't install ActiveX! It doesn't even offer me the option to install it!

This happened to me after cleaning the registry with CCleaner.

One solution: Install or reinstall Java (following link):
