Linking Inkscape to Indesign

Hello everyone,

This is my first time posting here, and despite my extensive searches, I can't find the answer to my problem.

I want to create a document myself. I will be using InDesign for the formatting part.
However, I will be using Inkscape (I'm a novice with this tool) for the vector shapes.

Let me explain, I downloaded free documents in .ai format from Freepik, which I open in Inkscape.
These are files from which I only need one shape.
How should I go about importing the selected shape into InDesign without it becoming pixelated?

Usually, I had no problem with Illustrator; a copy from Illustrator and a paste into InDesign worked perfectly. But now I'm struggling. Even when exporting as a PNG, the quality isn't there, which is strange because in Inkscape I can zoom in to 500% and the shape is still perfect in quality.. :/

If you could help me, that would be really great!

Thank you all in advance,

CJO

The native format of Inkscape (SVG) is not recognized by Indesign; however, Inkscape can save in other formats (EPS, PDF), which are recognized by Indesign.

Indesign, being a layout software, what you see on the screen is a preview. You can increase the display resolution via the menu "View/Display Performance/High Quality Display" or Alt+Ctrl+H.

Hello,

Thank you for your response.
I usually have a habit of displaying in high definition, but it’s still not better.
Here’s how I do it:
Once the shape is finalized in Inkscape, I save it as EPS, because SVG does not open with InDesign, or I export it as PNG.
Then I go to InDesign and import the file.

However, it’s not very sharp.. and even when I prepare the PDF file for printing, it’s not sharp.. I don’t understand anything anymore..

Maybe I’m doing it wrong??
What’s strange is that in Inkscape, the shape is well vectorized, I can zoom in, and the line is sharp..
I thought I could do like in Illustrator, copy the object and paste it into InDesign, but it’s blurry in InDesign, it doesn’t look like a vector anymore..

Thank you for your help, I’m getting a bit desperate..

The PNG format is an image format, so a pixelated image.
Then there is the PDF or EPS format, or possibly the EMF or WMF formats...

In the resulting PDF file from the export (from InDesign), you should have your drawing in vector format. If this is not the case, there is a problem with the file you are importing...
