Inkscape - Reduce number of nodes

Solved

Hello, I have an SVG file that has a lot of points ("nodes") and I would like to eliminate a few of them. I used Path --> Simplify, and it is exactly what I want to do, but this time it's too simplified... Is there a way to control the level of simplification of the object?
Thank you for your responses :)

Configuration: Windows 7 / Firefox 6.0.1

Good evening,

"File" => "Inkscape Preferences".
Line "Miscellaneous": "Simplification Threshold".
(RTFG...;-)
:-)

See you later

Re,

- draw a rectangle the size of your page,
- center it on your page (using the "align & distribute" function),
- select the rectangle and the star,
- "Path" => "Intersection"

;-)

A bit of info on boolean operations in Inkscape:

If needed, send me your file and I can easily simplify the drawing with Illustrator; the options are modifiable in real-time.

See you!

Thank you, this issue is resolved :)
But I would need another little advice please: I have a shape that is in the drawing area but is exceeding. I would like to keep only what is in the drawing area and remove everything that exceeds, how can I do that? ^^

Re ;-),

"I have a shape that is in the drawing area but is sticking out."
Like this? :

"I would like to keep only what is in the drawing area and remove everything that sticks out."
Well, several methods are possible...

1° Switch to Node Editing mode (F2) [if it is a predefined shape (circle, rectangle, star...) first go through "Path" => "Object to Path"], and delete the unwanted nodes...
(You may need to add some nodes) :
https://pix.toile-libre.org/upload/original/1315127781.jpg

2° Add a white rectangle above the shape, which should contain what you want to keep :
https://pix.toile-libre.org/upload/original/1315128284.jpg
- select your object to modify,
- add the white rectangle to the selection (Shift+click) (both objects must be selected),
- "Object" => "Clip" => "Set" :

The downside is that if your object "to cut" has a border, that border is not created where the object is masked...

addendum

A 3rd method:
- create a rectangle that will now represent what needs to be removed:
https://pix.toile-libre.org/upload/original/1315145124.jpg
- select the object you want to modify,
- add your rectangle to the selection (Shift+click) (both objects must be selected),
- "Path" => "Difference":

Here is what I have (it's simplified, right ^^).

I took a big star to get the lines, and I only want to keep that.

Re,

Well, if you want to keep the star intact, select it and resize it...
Or, "file" => "document properties" and click on "Fit page to selection"...

If you only want to keep the outline, leave the fill empty, and use black (for example) for the outline:

No, I want to remove the part of the star that sticks out, and keep ONLY what is on the page ^^

Hi,

You want to remove what exceeds and keep only what stands out...
I admit I'm "a little lost"...
