Import old bookmarks (favorites) into FireFox

Hello,

I crashed my FireFox and lost all my bookmarks... But I have a backup folder that contains all my bookmarks that I've been dragging around for a long time... I tried to import them, but it doesn't work...
I think the current FireFox and security issues are causing this... I also tried changing the folders by replacing them, but that doesn't work either...
So I have a cascade of folders (my Favorites) that are backups I would like to be able to reuse in my new FireFox out of necessity...
A kind soul who knows the recovery maneuver would be welcome.

    When you say "I have a backup file ...", are you referring to a saved profile file?

      No, it's not a profile folder, it's a folder with many subfolders that contain the URL link... Just as it was visible by clicking on "Bookmarks"
      it gives me 16 subfolders Media... Computer... Press for example. In Media, there are 6 URLs, in Computer, there are 8 sub-subfolders which each have 10 URLs... etc.

      I think there's a data format issue that needs to be converted.

      The problem is the age of the files... But if I search hard enough, I might be able to find it..??

      In my opinion, this solution, or reinstalling the old version of Firefox you had and trying to import your saved bookmarks??

    Hello, if you haven't already, try clicking on > bookmarks > show all > import and backup > restore, there you should ideally have a list of dates?
    Did you uninstall FF or did you repair it? If you repaired it, you should have a folder "old FF data" on your desktop from which you can reinject your bookmarks...

    Thank you for your cooperation,

    I didn't repair, I slipped on an uninstallation of another one with "Revouninstaller" and it cleaned up well.
    -- In FF, the file it finds to restore is from yesterday and nothing else.
    -- I don't have a folder on the desktop or any earlier date, I think "Revo" is quite radical or I didn't set it up correctly... because it starts with a registry backup and there's "failure".

    On the other hand, it accepts restoring from a file... but it wants a file with the extension 
     *.json or jsonls4
    and my backup file is not like that... It's a file full of subfolders with URLs and its name is: Favorites with a star in its yellow folder.

    I add that I have an automatic backup on my server (every Sunday) this favorites folder is indeed in it and it corresponds to my favorites links...??? That's why I don't understand why it can't be restored.

    Or maybe I just got unlucky, the version of FF changed its folder type, just yesterday..??

    can't you import a copy from your server that you put in your documents, and re-import it from "import and backup"?

      He doesn't accept it... he wants "json" files..??

      And if I substitute my folder, he doesn’t take it into account... is there something wrong?

      I have another old-school PC, I’m going to diagnose it..

    as suggested by "jmarion3" try a system restore to an earlier date, it should work I just tested it and returned to the previous version! 58.0.2 without apparent bugs ...

      I found my bookmarks... after balancing acts with another computer running XP and FireFox 52 ESR

      The thing is not very clear... I managed to update through my network on the JSON file from XP... I should also mention that I had a sync from back then without an account... whereas now I'm not registered... so which one was updated..??

      Phew! Happy for you, remember to occasionally back up your bookmarks on an external drive, safer than in your documents (in case of a machine crash) good luck. @+

      YES, phew... I would have survived but still, it's better this way..
      And thanks to everyone, because it's your ideas that guided me towards this path.
      So, the backup is in "My Documents" because this entire folder is automatically backed up on my server, once a week... normally, I'm good with that.
      I didn't understand why the import was refusing it...??? maybe because it's a network path (with server refusals) since this path has been accepted on the other PC...?
