Hello, after running queries on a database, I can no longer save. I'm told to activate Excel. I visited the Microsoft site which offers to buy: is there a compatible app?

    you should proofread yourself before posting, your request is not clear at all.

    "after motifs on a database" what modifications? which database? with Excel? Which version?
    "I can no longer save" save what? Since you mention Excel, I suppose it's the workbook?
    "They tell me to activate Excel" do you have a pirated version or a trial version? In the latter case you indeed need to purchase it
    "is there a compatible app?" OpenOffice, LibreOffice, OnlyOffice, etc etc

    @grenouillerouge an (old) version purchased (legally) remains valid for life, so not "Microsoft got fed up".

    You are not answering the questions!

    Question 1: which version of Office? 2007, 2010, 2013, 2016, 2019, 2021, 2024 or 365?

    Question 2: after motifs on a database—what changes?

    Question 3: which databases?

    Question 4: "I can no longer save" save what?

    Question 5: can you still work with Excel on another workbook?

    Affirmation 1: "is there a compatible app?" Yes, OpenOffice, LibreOffice, OnlyOffice etc etc,

    but before moving to another software it would be good if you answered the 4 questions above.

    you are right and I thank you for your remarks. I should have been clearer. In fact I have an Office version, bought over ten years ago. It may be the reason Microsoft got fed up with it.

      Hello, I haven’t tried for 2 or 3 years, when Excel 2007 was still running perfectly, at least on Windows 10. The behavior suggests a version of Excel whose license is not or no longer activated for one reason or another. We can of course open files as highlighted in <1> with almost anything except in special situations (new Excel 365 or 2024 functions, which aren’t the case here, or macros). On the other hand, Office 2024 licenses that don’t add much for the average user are, as far as I recall, a bit more expensive, but you can easily find online Office 2019 or 2021, installer and license, at about €0.90 on Cdiscount, Rakuten DA, or wherever you like.

        Beyond obviously illegal methods, the reasons for deactivating a licensed version purchased are either an online license that is non-reinstallable (attempts to modify or reinstall Office) or an online, volume-purchased license, sometimes unbeknownst to the user: the license belongs to a company that no longer has the required number or any licenses at all, and periodic verification (to recall, every 6 months) fails. In the case of a truly older version (well over 10 years) on a recent Windows version, you would crash not at activation but at installation, perhaps with 2003 and certainly with 2000 and earlier.
