Hello everyone, so for Christmas I'm going to get a new laptop that I bought without an OS to save some money. I've found OEM licenses for Windows 10 on CD, but I'm still hesitant because I don't know if I can transfer that to a USB key. I should mention that I don't have a CD drive on my PC.

I thought about buying a Windows 7 license and then upgrading to a Windows 10 license via the email licenses that you can find for €5/6.

I've also heard that it was still possible to upgrade to Windows 10 for free from Windows 7 or 8, but I'm not sure about that.

Or maybe Ubuntu, but I want to use my PC for gaming, and unfortunately, quite a few games still don't offer a Linux version (e.g., Overwatch, Fortnite).

If you could help me answer the main question and also assist me if you know other possibilities for getting Windows 10.

Thank you in advance. I'm looking forward to your responses : )

Hello,

Microsoft provides the ISO files (and tools) to create a USB installation drive for Windows 10.

As long as you have a valid license number (so make sure to check your seller), you can install the corresponding version of Windows 10 by downloading it from the Microsoft site and creating your USB drive.

See this article: How to install Windows 10

Ah okay cool, I didn't know that, thanks a lot. So I'll mark the topic as resolved.
But are the sellers of €5 keys reliable?

But are the €5 key sellers reliable?

Well, it depends on the sellers...

€5 W10 keys... it's a bit of a "hit or miss": hence the recommendation to buy from slightly more well-known platforms where sellers have good reviews...

Apparently, this seller: https://www.cdiscount.com/informatique/logiciels-a-telecharger/l-10776.html

Seems to have good feedback. At the time, there was CoffeeSoft, but they no longer sell on CDiscount.

Be careful that OEM = tied to the machine.
