Smart hard drive check failed, what to do?

Hello everyone,

For the past few days, my computer has barely been working. It's even difficult for me to start in safe mode.
There is a recurring noise like a click and then my computer freezes, making it impossible to do anything. If I wait long enough, I might regain control, but not always.

Before my computer crashed, I had copied files (about 170 GB from my external hard drive to the computer and then put them back, as I wanted to set up my external hard drive for both PC and Mac) and the bugs started when I tried to restore my files.

I tried to do possible cleanups (at my level) when safe mode was working. (C Cleaner, Ad Aware which flagged about fifty infected files). I performed the cleanups. Since my Avast wasn't working in safe mode, I couldn't run it.
Since my problem wasn't resolving, I tried to format my hard drive, but again an error prevented me from completing the procedure.

I managed to run a “diagnostic” of the system, which shows me:

SMART check of the hard drive: Failed.
Failure ID: M8BX31-7PX8SP-MFPWMG-608803
Product ID: N0L76EA#ABF
Hard Drive 1 Primary HDD Bay

There you go, I don’t know if anyone can help me or at least translate the issue?? I imagine my hard drive might be dead, but I would appreciate confirmation and whether it’s worth taking my computer to a repair technician?

Thank you in advance for your availability.
Camille.

If someone following this post has more in-depth knowledge, could they give us their opinion on the choice of the record?

Thank you, I think I'm going to take the one you recommended, the computer won't be of much use to me, so I hope the hard drive will hold up.

Do you think I can use my current hard drive as an external hard drive to recover my data, or is it already too damaged?
If so, do you think this enclosure would do the trick?

In any case, I really appreciate all the advice you're giving me and I truly thank you for taking the time to help others.
Camille.

If you're not in a hurry; wait, I've posted in another forum to see if someone can give another opinion (different or not).

As for the hard drive, I would say it's dead, but if it starts, even if just once and very slowly, there might (maybe) be a way to partially recover data. It's more a matter of luck than anything else. (I've managed to recover data after 30 hours of work on the drive, but it was laborious)

Otherwise, yes the case can be suitable and at worst, it will just be necessary to buy another drive to put in it and use it as an external drive. (I really like the transparent design :-) )

Thanks for the compliment, but I don't deserve much credit; actually, I enjoy it so I'm the one benefiting from it :-) It just complements my job, which is quite similar, except that here I'm getting paid :-)
