Hello,
I just downloaded an .avi movie and when I try to play it, it says I need to download the Xvid Video Codec. Once I did that, when I try to convert the file, it shows "converting..." and I wait for a long time and it doesn't progress at all. Your help would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance :)
Configuration: Windows / Firefox 55.0

Hello,
In principle, VLC should be able to play an AVI movie encoded with the XviD codec.
If that’s not the case, then the file may be corrupted, or if you’re being asked to download something, it might be an attempt to install a virus or something equivalent.
In the latter case, delete that video file and run your antivirus, and at a minimum run MBAM, and in case you are truly infected, submit a disinfection request on the Virus/Security forum.
And don't download from that site anymore... ;)
If you want to convert with XviD, use a recognized software such as XMedia Recode to name just one.
Best regards
