I had the same question and I quickly applied this method.
Everything goes well until the moment I validate the software's proposal (e.g. save as "FileName - reversed.mov")
I systematically get the message "convert FileName.xxx" failed

I forgot to specify my config:
- Win 7 pro 64 bits
- CPU Intel Core i7 3770K @ 3.50GHz
- motherboard ASUSTeK P8Z77-V
- 16 gb ram DDR3 668
- video card 1024MB ATI ASUS HD7750 Series
- system HDD Samsung SSD 850 PRO 256G

I just tried again with another fairly long file (about 1h30) in MP4 (H264/AVC and AAC) with a resolution of 640x352 and 463 Kbps, and it worked again.
Personally, I don't change any of the default settings in the Reverse effect of this software, so it can take up a lot of space when exporting...

Initially, my file weighs 330 MB and with the conversion (temporary file that then disappears) in between, it ends up being about 12.8 GB in MOV because it uses the ProRes 422 video codec, so the bitrate is 21.1 Mbps.
However, if I try with a UHD video that weighs 1 GB for 13 seconds made with ProRes 422 HQ and having a bitrate of 621 Mbps, it comes out lighter for sure.

Can you share the characteristics of your file so that I can test with a file similar to yours?

I actually left the default settings for these tests.
I did, among other things, a test with 3 different files.

Nothing seems to work, and all my attempts end in failure. Or maybe I'm just not very good.
In fact, I think my machine has a problem (maybe some tired dlls).
I must say that lately I've been testing a lot of software that isn't necessarily great in terms of quality, and it ends up leaving traces, even when I'm careful to prepare their uninstallation with a prior restore point.

Anyway, I plan to reinstall everything when my summer activities have calmed down.
In the meantime, I will continue to use Video Time Reversal, which is very useful but seems to slightly degrade the image, in my opinion.
After reinstalling my machine, if it works, I'll come back to talk about it on CCM.

Finally, after a good night's sleep and a clearer mind, I resumed my tests and found the solution on the Shotcut forum:

The issue is related to the version I'm using; it's a small bug that will be fixed in the next release.
"I see the problem is that ffmpeg does not accept a comma for number values. That means this is a bug when the OS region/locale settings specify using a comma for the decimal point. I will fix that for the next version 18.08."

I checked by switching from the comma, the French decimal symbol, to the point, the Anglo-Saxon symbol.
A few seconds and a few clicks in the Windows control panel.
Restarted Shotcut and ... bingo!
