Hello everyone,

I am completely new to this, so I apologize in advance if my question seems unclear or poorly explained; I will do my best:

I have 1080p 3D video files in .mkv format, which are very large. Initially, I was unable to put them on a 32GB USB stick, and I eventually learned that it was the format of the USB stick that was incorrect. I have since converted and reformatted my USB stick from FAT32 (or OS X extended depending on the USB sticks) to ExFAT. I successfully transferred a 17GB video file to my USB stick.

The problem now is: my TV will not read the file. It detects the USB stick, it shows up in the menu, but I cannot play what it contains.

Does anyone have a solution?!

Thank you in advance ;-)

Configuration: Macintosh / Chrome 59.0.3071.115

Hello,

A TV cannot read the ExFAT format or the Mac OS format.
The only solution in such a case is the NTFS format. For that, you need to install a utility on the Mac.
Everything is explained here:

Best regards.

Always indicate your system configuration completely - exact computer model, exact OS version.

Hello Francis,

Thank you for your response.
However, the problem remains the same. I had previously installed the app "Paragon NTFS for Mac 15", but when I go to the "Disk Utility" menu on my Mac to change the file system of my USB drive, I am only offered the two Mac OS Extended systems, FAT32 format, and ExFAT format, with no trace of NTFS...

Hello. I have a TCL 50C635, and it doesn't read NTFS either... what should I do if I want to play large files?

Hello,

Why disrupt this discussion (which is about recording in NTFS) when you already have this format?

Either the TV can read exFAT (see in <2>) and I would be surprised, in which case you need to reformat the USB drive and try again, or you need to split the video into pieces smaller than 4 GB (we don't know if it's from Mac since we're drifting the conversation, for example under Windows with Avidemux), and this also does not guarantee a result which depends on the codecs that the TV is able to read.

Therefore, you should start by referring to the TV manual, which specifies which formats are accepted via USB.
