Upon re-reading the last ongoing rule, since it is not specified, we can deduce that acquisition cards should be returned to the bank at the end of the month (or turn) without any financial compensation.
It is written: "AT THE END OF THE LAST MONTH OF THE GAME, PUT ALL THE ACQUISITION CARDS YOU STILL HOLD ON THE DRAW PILE."
We have decided to sell them back to the bank at the end of the game rather than at the end of the turn (or month) to have an additional chance of landing on a "Sell" space, and in return, we receive the purchase price paid.
Otherwise, it does not encourage the act of purchasing the proposed acquisitions.
