Blue Screen Bad Pool Header

Hello,

Since yesterday, I have a blue screen with the message BAD POOL HEADER that appears as soon as I start my PC, just before I enter my Windows session password. I can't do anything except turn it off with the power button and restart in safe mode. The in-depth antivirus scans with Avast and AdwCleaner do not detect anything abnormal.

From what I'm reading on the internet, it might not necessarily be a virus but possibly a defect in one of the components of my Toshiba Satellite PC.

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium, service pack 1.

How can I get rid of the problem?

Uninstall Avast and it's all good.

  Nonsense! I don't see why Avast, which has never caused any issues on my PC for the past 7/8 years, would suddenly start causing one! Especially since I haven't made any changes to it lately.

ok still more blue screen crashes?

Windows Defender may be sufficient, possibly to do:

1) How to protect yourself from malicious scripts on Windows

2) Windows Firewall: the right settings

  Thank you for the information. I have applied the rule list for my Windows firewall. My PC is turned off every night, so it's restarted often, and there have been no more blue screens since I uninstalled Avast.

In particular, providing a WhoCrashed report would be nice to see if we have the driver causing these crashes.

It could be a hardware driver, software like antivirus, etc.

  - Test by uninstalling Avast!

  Okay. I have no other USB devices on my PC. My use of it is quite basic.
  
  I have an error message when installing Driverscould. "Could not access the Windows Installer service. This may occur if the Windows Installer is not properly installed. Please contact your technical support for assistance."
  
  While waiting for your response for the installation of Driverscould, I will try to shut down and restart normally after having uninstalled Avast!
  
  It’s better for me to do one operation at a time to make sure I identify the cause of the problem.

  I uninstalled Avast, cleaned the registry, and restarted, and this time the blue screen didn't appear. What was the problem, and can I reinstall my antivirus?

  Wait a little to see that the blue screen has disappeared, drop the driver update for now.
  Reinstall Avast! to see if it returns afterwards.

  Apart from Steam and a game purchased at Fnac, I don't remember installing anything else recently, and that was already three weeks ago.
  
  I will try a system restore to the closest earlier date, since the problem only occurred two days ago.
  
  I consult the help pages before sending a message to ask for help here, but there are half of the proposed manipulations that I am unable to do. For example, "If Windows starts, one of the memory modules was faulty, replace it." They are cute to mention this as if it were obvious, but I can't even recognize a memory module, let alone replace it.
  
  I don't have any USB devices connected to the ports on my PC. The mouse is infrared, and the printer is only connected when I print.
