Unable to connect to the Steam network

Hello, I'm explaining my problem with Steam that started yesterday. Having found no concrete answers, I'm explaining my issue.

I launch Steam and it shows:

-Steam update
Verifying the installation

-Connecting to Steam account "account name"

and then: Connection error, unable to connect to the Steam network, check your connection and click "Retry", or restart Steam in offline mode.
(retry - offline mode - exit)

with a Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library error popping up to spice things up (when I close the error window, the Steam window also closes).

I've tried a few things: reinstalling Steam, removing all folders and files except steam.exe and steamapps, deleting the ClientRegistry.blob file, uninstalling Avast, uTorrent, Daemon Tools, and I checked the firewall to make sure it's not blocking Steam and opening the ports, but my admin password isn't working...

Nothing is working for now, but I haven't lost hope (my vacation will be a bit of a bust if I can't get Steam working to play with my friends).

The problem started just after downloading Origin and FIFA (maybe there's a link between the two??), since then I've uninstalled FIFA and Origin.

My internet connection is working, Skype is working.

Hello, I've had this problem for 2 weeks! I finally found a way to fix the issue of the impossible connection to Steam!

    - Ctrl-Alt-Del

    - Task Manager then Details

    - Then you just need to scroll down to find Steam.exe and click "End Task"

    - After that, you need to restart Steam and normally it should work fine!

    Enjoy!!

It feels a bit psychopathic to answer myself haha but for those who have THE PROBLEM and have tried everything, try the last resort solution: personally, I had Windows 7 and I installed Windows 10 (tutorial on YouTube) of course back up your important files on an external hard drive or a USB stick beforehand. Then download the setup file and after following the initial instructions, check the box to install Windows 10 without SAVING ANYTHING (it's not worded that way) so your PC will somewhat clear itself and the problem will disappear. Finally, I'm giving you strength because I had to pull two all-nighters in a row to deal with this issue. STEAM can be a pain sometimes but hey, when it works, we forget ;)

Good luck guys, send me a message if you're having issues on certain points.

      Hello titimelon,

Installing/Reinstalling an operating system is sometimes a bit too "radical" a solution to solve certain problems.

It has indeed resolved your issue, but there must have been another solution.
I'm sorry I didn't see your topic earlier; I could have surely assisted you. In any case, I'm glad it’s resolved!

      Have a nice day,

      Hello FlawTECH

I'm new on Steam (new account) and I've just encountered the same problem as titimelon. Could you give me your technique since I'm using a PC with Windows 10 (very new)

Thanks in advance for your help.

      Hello natrock,

it would have been preferable to open a new topic.
Nevertheless, I will still propose a solution.

On the Steam shortcut (present on the desktop, create one if not):
      1. Right-click, Properties
      2. In the page that appears, go to the "Target" text box
      3. After the quotes enclosing the path to steam.exe, add a space and then -tcp

The target should look like this: ""C:\[...]\Steam\steam.exe" -tcp

      4. Click apply then OK.
      5. Relaunch Steam via this shortcut

If this solution doesn't work, please create a new topic :)

      Best regards,

      FlawTECH
