Erreur fatale Steam

So here it is, for a few days now, when I try to log onto Steam, the program tries to update... Except that: The update never finishes as I'm getting an error message: "Steam needs to be online to update. Please confirm your network connection and try again." How can I fix this please? Thank you in advance.

Here you go, so I found the solution in the end, it's quite simple! Just reinstall Steam and when you open the client, it asks either to uninstall or repair, you just need to choose repair and there you go, job done.
