Hello, I have an old Ethernet cable connected to my PC. I just acquired a PS4 and I want to place it next to my computer, however, I would like to know what length of Ethernet cable I should buy. I tried looking at my cable fixed to the computer, but there are a lot of complex writings.

I do not wish to use a switch or anything, just to know the length of the cable and buy the same length.

    Hello,
    to respond to you, in fact there isn't a length indicated on a cable, except in special cases.
    The cable is sold in rolls of 100m or 500m and is cut to size.
    Then,
    there are tools to measure an installed cable (echo meter) and cabling certifiers are capable of measuring the length, it’s even part of the certification measurements, but it's for professional use only.
    Without going as far as certifiers, professional testers can do it too.
    Some network cards in PCs are also capable of measuring cable length and their status can be found in the PC's BIOS.

    of course the length is printed on the cables!
    The marking depends on the manufacturer. For example, for those distributed by the large DIY chain L***-M***: if we look at the cable, we see marked "ELECTRALINE- F/UTP CAT 5E 3801M", and 2 meters further, we see "ELECTRALINE- F/UTP CAT 5E 3803M" or "ELECTRALINE- F/UTP CAT 5E 3799M"

    We don't know the measurements of your apartment,.... so it will be very difficult!
    You can buy any length you want! Up to 100 meters, no problem!

      What I meant to say is, is there a way to know the length of an Ethernet cable by looking at the writing on the cable?
